Morocco is one of the world's great adventure crossroads, where the snow-capped High Atlas mountains meet the endless dunes of the Sahara, and Berber culture runs through it all. It is a country built for big days out — long treks, dusty trails and desert nights under a blaze of stars.
The Atlas Mountains
The Central and Atlas Mountains are the heart of it. Hiking and trekking lead the way — including Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa — through Berber villages and remote valleys, with mountain biking, e-biking and road cycling on dramatic mountain roads.
The Sahara
South towards the Sahara, quad biking and 4x4 off-road tours cross the great dunes, and a dawn hot-air balloon drifts over the desert foothills. It is classic expedition country, with bushcraft and desert camps adding to the sense of adventure.
Coast and Rif
To the north, the North Atlantic and Rif bring greener hills and Atlantic coast — a cooler counterpoint to the mountains and desert.
Where to base yourself
The Atlas Mountains for trekking and biking, the Sahara for dune adventures, and the North Atlantic and Rif for coast and greener country.
