Touring Award is a Paddle UK Personal Performance Award for paddlers who want trip skills beyond short lake laps. You learn efficient forward paddling, equipment choices for longer days afloat, and decision-making when wind, flow and fatigue start to matter on canals, rivers and sheltered open water.
Delivery is flexible across kayak, canoe and other touring craft depending on your coach and venue. Sheltered-water confidence does not always transfer to a five-kilometre headwind leg. That is why these awards exist. Coaches sign off when you can plan and paddle a touring day with sound judgement. Pack spare snacks. Your future self thanks you on hour four.
No mandatory prior certificate, though Paddle Discover or equivalent skills help. You get wet practising rescues on touring modules. That is not a failure. Leave a comment when you book with your craft and typical paddling venues.
Touring Award uses continuous assessment during coached journey sessions.
