PADI Scuba Diver is the shorter route into scuba for people who want a real certification but not the full Open Water Diver timetable. It covers the first portion of Open Water training: theory, confined-water skills and part of your open water dive experience.
You finish as a certified diver, but with limits. You may dive only under direct PADI Professional supervision to a maximum depth of 12 metres. That suits holidaymakers who want guided resort dives, or anyone building confidence before completing the rest of Open Water later.
Most centres run Scuba Diver over two to four days. Theory often starts at home via eLearning, then pool sessions and open water dives follow. The certification does not expire, and upgrading to full Open Water is a straightforward continuation rather than starting again from scratch.
Scuba Diver is performance-based, like Open Water, but covers a smaller portion of the full programme.
