Rock Skills Introduction is Mountain Training's gentle front door to real rock. No previous climbing experience is required. If the wall looks fun but tying in, finding the crag and trusting the rope makes you anxious, this one-day course is built for you.
Minimum contact time is eight hours with at least five on an accessible single-pitch crag. Your tutor shows you how harnesses and helmets should fit, how to belay without letting the rope slip, and how to move on rock without treating every hold like a cliffhanger moment. You climb, you belay, you learn crag etiquette. It is coaching, not a graded exam.
Most nervous beginners feel awkward on the first route and noticeably calmer by the final climb. That is normal. Rock Skills sits before harder modules or personal climbing holidays. It pairs well with indoor sessions at Level 1 New Climber if you want wall time before your first outdoor day.
Rock Skills Introduction is a skills course without a formal pass or fail exam. Your tutor coaches belaying and climbing until procedures feel repeatable.
