BORDA Higher Level is for operators who cannot afford to guess when the hill gets steep, the traction disappears or the job runs past sunset. You must already hold Standard Level competence. Higher extends your judgement to the edge of what the vehicle can do, and more importantly teaches you to recognise when to stop.
This two-day course covers syllabus units one to twenty: everything from Basic and Standard, plus steeper ascents and descents, loss of engine braking, self-recovery, wheel changes off-road and driving in darkness. Loads and trailers can be included when your training needs analysis requires it. Maximum ratio is three trainees to one BST across two days. That is a lot of seat time, which is the point.
Higher is the standard for people working in unknown conditions who need the skill to say no as clearly as they say go. Your trainer still sits in the front passenger seat on exercises, but Proficiency assessment expects unprompted competence when the pressure is on.
