Serua takes in a stretch of Viti Levu's south coast west of Navua, and it's where Pacific Harbour sits. The town was laid out around canals and a golf course behind Deuba beach. It has become the south coast's base for diving, offshore surf trips and river days inland. Navua, on the river of the same name, is split between Serua and neighbouring Namosi, and longboats leave its riverbank for villages upstream.
What to do in Serua
Shark Reef, about 15 minutes by boat from Pacific Harbour, is the dive most people come for. On this two-tank scuba dive you kneel behind a low coral wall at around 30 metres while guides feed bull sharks, and shallower stages bring in reef sharks, nurse sharks and now and then a tiger shark. Inland, the Upper Navua Conservation Area protects a gorge where the river runs between black volcanic walls with waterfalls pouring off them. Rafting trips run through it on grade II and III water. Surf boats take 40 minutes to an hour to reach Frigates Passage, a powerful left-hand reef break for experienced surfers. Serua is the adventure hub of Suva and southeast Viti Levu.
