Nadroga and Navosa covers the southwest of Viti Levu and the islands off its west coast. The Coral Coast runs east from Natadola past Sigatoka, the main town, with resorts spread along a fringing reef and village beaches in between. Behind it, the Sigatoka valley is called Fiji's salad bowl for the vegetables grown on its river flats. Further inland, Navosa rises into rugged hill country cut by deep river valleys. Offshore, the Mamanuca islands belong to the province, from Malolo and Mana out to Tavarua and Monuriki, where the film Cast Away was shot.
What to do in Nadroga and Navosa
The Mamanucas hold Fiji's best-known surfing. Cloudbreak, a long left over the outer reef near Tavarua, and Restaurants, a shallower left beside the island, work best in the southern swells of about April to October, and both suit experienced surfers. The islands' sheltered lagoons are good for snorkelling on calmer days. On the mainland, the Sigatoka Sand Dunes National Park, Fiji's first national park, has walking trails over tall dunes near the river mouth. Above the valley, the Tavuni Hill Fort was built by Tongan settlers. Natadola, a long curve of pale sand, is one of the best swimming beaches on the coast. Nadroga and Navosa makes up the southern half of most trips to Western Viti Levu.
