Designed for travellers who enjoy combining walking with history and spectacular mountain scenery, this four-day adventure explores the heart of the former Inca Empire before finishing with a hike to Machu Picchu. Rather than spending long hours on coaches, you'll be out exploring archaeological sites, mountain viewpoints and historic settlements throughout the journey.
Each day introduces new landscapes, from the cobbled streets of Cusco to the valleys surrounding Ollantaytambo and the cloud forest leading towards Machu Picchu. Travelling on the panoramic Vistadome train and approaching the famous citadel on foot creates an active experience that balances culture with plenty of time outdoors.
Exploring with a private guide allows every walk and archaeological visit to move at a comfortable pace while giving you the opportunity to stop for photographs, learn about the history of each location and fully appreciate the surroundings. The itinerary combines active sightseeing with manageable hiking, making it ideal for travellers who prefer exploring on foot.
Accommodation, transfers, entrance tickets and guided excursions are all arranged in advance, allowing you to focus entirely on the adventure. The addition of the Vistadome train provides one of Peru's most scenic rail journeys before finishing with the rewarding walk to Machu Picchu.
Following your arrival in Cusco, you'll begin exploring the former capital of the Inca Empire on foot with your private guide. The day includes visits to Cusco Cathedral and Koricancha before continuing to several of the city's best-known archaeological sites.
Walking around Sacsayhuamán, Qenqo, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay allows you to appreciate the remarkable scale of Inca engineering while enjoying excellent views across the surrounding mountains. After the tour you'll check into your accommodation for the evening.
After breakfast you'll head into the Sacred Valley, where the day combines guided walks through ancient Inca sites with visits to local markets and mountain viewpoints. Your first stop is Pisaq Market before continuing through one of Peru's most impressive valleys.
Following a buffet lunch, you'll explore Ollantaytambo, where steep stone terraces, ancient streets and impressive ruins offer plenty of opportunities for walking and photography. Time spent exploring on foot provides a much better appreciation of this remarkable archaeological site before returning to your accommodation.
Today's adventure begins aboard the Vistadome train, travelling through spectacular Andean scenery towards Aguas Calientes. Large panoramic windows make the journey itself a memorable part of the experience.
After arriving, you'll continue towards Machu Picchu and enjoy a guided walking tour around its temples, terraces and ceremonial areas. Exploring the ancient citadel on foot allows you to discover hidden viewpoints while learning about the fascinating history of one of the world's greatest archaeological sites.
Before returning to Cusco, you'll have time to enjoy one last walk through the surrounding area before your arranged transfer. Depending on your departure schedule, this is an opportunity to soak up the atmosphere of the Andes before the adventure comes to an end.
Transfers are provided to the airport or your next destination, completing four rewarding days of walking, history and mountain scenery.
Three nights of accommodation are included during the tour, providing comfortable places to rest after each day's walking and sightseeing. Each hotel has been selected to support the itinerary and minimise unnecessary travel between activities.
Breakfast is included each morning before setting out for the next adventure, helping you start each day ready for more exploration across the Andes.
Yes. Although this is not a full trekking expedition like the Salkantay or Inca Jungle routes, it includes plenty of walking each day. You'll explore archaeological sites on foot, walk through historic Inca towns and spend time discovering Machu Picchu without rushing from place to place.
It's an excellent choice for travellers who enjoy being active while also wanting to experience Peru's history and culture. The pace is moderate, making it achievable for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness.
Walking takes place every day, with time spent exploring Cusco's archaeological sites, the Sacred Valley, Ollantaytambo and Machu Picchu. The route includes uneven stone paths, steps, inclines and cobbled streets, so comfortable footwear is essential.
The final visit to Machu Picchu also involves walking around the extensive archaeological site, allowing you to explore temples, terraces and viewpoints while learning about the history of the ancient city.
Yes. Your journey to and from Machu Picchu includes the Vistadome train, one of Peru's most scenic railway services. Large panoramic windows allow you to enjoy uninterrupted views of the mountains, rivers and valleys throughout the journey.
Many travellers consider the train ride one of the highlights of the trip, as it provides a completely different perspective of the spectacular Andean landscape before arriving at Machu Picchu.
During the four days you'll explore Cusco Cathedral, Koricancha, Sacsayhuamán, Qenqo, Puca Pucara, Tambomachay, Pisaq Market, Ollantaytambo and Machu Picchu itself.
Each location offers something different, from enormous Inca stone walls and ceremonial sites to colourful local markets and impressive mountain fortresses, creating a varied itinerary from beginning to end.
Three breakfasts and a buffet lunch in the Sacred Valley are included as part of the package. These meals are timed to fit naturally within the itinerary, allowing you to enjoy the day's activities without needing to organise food during the guided excursions.
Other lunches, dinners and drinks are left for you to choose independently, giving you the flexibility to sample local restaurants and traditional Peruvian cuisine during your free time.
Three nights of accommodation are included, offering comfortable places to relax after each day's sightseeing and walking. Staying in well-located accommodation also reduces unnecessary travel time between activities.
Each morning begins with breakfast before setting out on the next adventure, making it easy to maximise your time exploring the region rather than worrying about logistics.
