Explore calm coastal waterways on a relaxed paddle through the mangroves just outside Fort Lauderdale. This small-group experience blends kayaking and paddleboarding with wildlife spotting, local knowledge, and time to properly enjoy being on the water.
Designed to be accessible and unhurried, the session suits families, couples, and anyone wanting a few hours outdoors without needing prior paddling experience.
The session begins with a friendly welcome at the launch point, followed by a short safety briefing and equipment setup. You’ll be introduced to both kayaks and paddleboards, with guidance on which option suits you best on the day. Once on the water, the pace is relaxed, allowing everyone to settle in and enjoy paddling through narrow mangrove channels and open stretches of calm water.
As you move through the mangroves, the focus is on observation and understanding rather than distance covered. Expect to see coastal birdlife, fish moving through the roots, and the subtle changes in the water as tides and light shift. Throughout the trip, your guide shares clear, engaging explanations about how mangroves protect the coastline, support marine life, and why these ecosystems matter in South Florida.
Midway through the experience there’s time to pause, float, and recharge with chilled fruit and soft drinks, with music playing quietly in the background. Photos are taken during the session so you can stay present rather than worrying about your phone. The return paddle follows a slightly different line where possible, keeping the experience varied and unforced right to the end.
The session takes place in sheltered mangrove waterways close to the coast, offering protection from swell and boat traffic while still feeling properly immersed in nature. This area is known for calm conditions, making it ideal for first-time paddlers and mixed-ability groups who want to enjoy the environment rather than focus on technical performance.
Access is straightforward, with the meeting point located near public transport and coastal roads. The surrounding area combines residential shoreline with natural mangrove systems, giving a clear sense of how urban South Florida and fragile marine habitats sit side by side.
No previous kayaking or paddleboarding experience is required. The session is suitable for anyone comfortable spending time on the water and able to follow basic safety instructions. Children are welcome, and very young participants can sit with an adult, making this a realistic option for families.
Participants should be able to paddle gently for short periods and get in and out of a kayak or onto a paddleboard with assistance if needed. The route is chosen to match conditions on the day, keeping the experience manageable rather than demanding.
This is a genuinely small-scale experience, led by people who are on the water because they love it, not because they’re running a volume-based tour schedule. Groups are capped at eight, which means guidance is personal, the pace is flexible, and no one is rushed or left behind.
Every detail is handled with care, from clean, well-maintained equipment to thoughtful extras like drinks, fruit, and shared photos after the session. The approach is friendly and informal, but always professional, creating an atmosphere where guests feel comfortable, welcomed, and fully able to enjoy the time on the water.
No previous experience is required. The session starts with a clear introduction to both kayaks and paddleboards, and your guide helps you choose the most suitable option based on your confidence and balance.
The route is planned for calm, sheltered water, allowing beginners to focus on enjoyment rather than technique. Support is available throughout, and switching between kayak and paddleboard is often possible if conditions allow.
Yes, this experience works well for families. Children can paddle independently if they’re confident, or sit with an adult in a kayak where appropriate. Toddlers are welcome to sit on an adult’s lap.
The pace is flexible, and frequent pauses mean younger participants don’t feel pressured to keep moving. Safety equipment is provided for all ages.
Wildlife sightings vary by day, but commonly include coastal birds, fish, crabs, and other mangrove-dwelling species. The mangrove roots are particularly active areas, especially in clear conditions.
Your guide explains what you’re seeing and how the ecosystem works, helping you notice details that are easy to miss when paddling independently.
Yes. Both options are available, and your guide will talk you through the differences at the start. Conditions on the day may influence what’s recommended.
If you’re unsure, starting in a kayak is common, with the option to try a paddleboard later if conditions and group flow allow.
Wear lightweight clothing suitable for getting wet, along with sun protection such as a hat and sunglasses. Water shoes or sandals with straps are recommended.
You don’t need to bring food or drinks, as refreshments are included. A small dry bag can be useful, though storage is provided.
The session is classed as easy and does not require high fitness levels. Paddling is gentle, with plenty of time to rest, float, and observe.
That said, participants should be comfortable using their arms for short paddling sections and sitting or standing for periods on the water.
Conditions are checked in advance, and routes are chosen to stay within sheltered water. If weather or water conditions make the session unsafe, you’ll be contacted to discuss alternatives.
Safety always takes priority, and decisions are made conservatively rather than pushing on in poor conditions.
Music is played quietly during rest periods to add to the relaxed atmosphere, rather than continuously while paddling.
If the group prefers a quieter experience, this can be adjusted on the day.
You’re welcome to bring a phone, but it’s recommended to use a waterproof case. Secure storage is available for items you don’t want on the water.
Photos are taken during the session, allowing you to stay present without worrying about capturing everything yourself.
