A super jeep ride sets the scene, taking you through Iceland’s wild glacial landscapes before the hike begins.
After meeting your guide at Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon, the adventure starts with a short drive in a super jeep toward the glacier. The ride crosses glacial tundra and rugged terrain, giving a first glimpse of the ice you’ll soon be walking on. Guides help fit crampons and helmets and show you the basics of glacier hiking before stepping onto the ice.
Walking on the glacier, you’ll encounter deep crevasses, sculpted ice formations, and brilliant blue hues that shift with the light. Guides share stories about the glacier’s formation and how it continues to evolve, making it easy to connect with the landscape while snapping some incredible photos. You can take your time soaking up the scenery and learning fun glacier facts along the way.
At the end of the hike, the group returns to the glacier edge and heads back to the hotel. Within 14 days, you’ll receive a professionally edited photo package featuring action shots, portraits, and the landscapes you explored. Optional transfers from Reykjavík are available, extending the day for a private group adventure.
The hike starts at Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon in Hnappavellir, within Vatnajökull National Park. Skaftafell is about a 4.5-hour drive from Reykjavík, so an overnight stay nearby is recommended to ensure a relaxed start. The hotel parking lot is where guides meet and prepare the group for the glacier trek.
Surrounding the glacier, the landscape is wild and dramatic, with mossy lava fields, volcanic mountains, and ice-covered valleys. The super jeep journey provides a closer look at this rugged terrain and sets the scene for the adventure that awaits on Falljökull Glacier.

While no prior glacier experience is needed, participants should be comfortable walking on uneven surfaces for around 2 hours. The guides give clear instructions to ensure everyone can enjoy the hike safely and confidently.
