Ice Fishing in Rovaniemi

You do not need any fishing background to come out with us. We start on the ice with a calm introduction, covering how to walk, how to drill a hole, and how the short rods used on ice feel in the hand before you try a hole of your own.

Your guide then shares the small methods used to attract fish under the ice. The pace stays easy, and we can stay longer at one hole or move if the first spot is quiet.

This is an easy outing rather than a long hike. You should be comfortable standing and walking on a frozen lake for a few hours, and happy to spend that time outdoors in Finnish winter weather.

Dress in warm layers you can add or remove, and wear winter boots with a decent sole. We can pause between holes so you can warm your hands and take a breath before the next drill.

Tell us the ages in your group so we can say whether the ice and the four hours will suit everyone who wants to come. The outing is an easy introduction, and your guide keeps the first holes calm.

Everyone who joins should be able to stand on the ice for a few hours and follow simple safety instructions from the guide. Bring extra layers for younger guests, as they cool down faster once you stop moving.

Wear warm layers, a hat, gloves and winter boots. The session is four hours on open ice, so wind and standing still will cool you faster than a winter walk through town.

Bring sunglasses if the snow is bright, and a small dry bag for your phone. Have your hotel or cabin address ready so we can plan pickup in Rovaniemi.

Ice fishing is a real day on the water, not a guaranteed catch. Your guide shows you how to drill, how to move, and how to attract fish under the ice, and we try more than one hole when the first one is quiet.

Some days the fish come quickly and some days they stay deep. The outing is still the quiet lake, the introduction, and time on the ice with someone who fishes here through the winter.

The outing is four hours in all. That includes the introduction on the ice, time to drill and move between holes, and the fishing itself with your guide beside you.

We keep the pace unhurried so you can learn the basics properly rather than rushing a single hole. Pickup in Rovaniemi is part of the plan, and we will confirm timings once we have your address.

The session needs a sound ice surface, so we watch the temperature and the state of the lake before we set out. Soft ice, a sudden thaw or very thin cover can mean we have to move your time or stop the day.

If we cannot run, we will be in touch as early as we can with the next step. Please treat this as a winter activity that depends on the lake staying hard enough to walk and drill, not as an indoor session.

Pickup in Rovaniemi is included. Share your hotel or cabin address so we can plan the run out to the lake. We will send you a time once that address is with us.

This outing does not include a return drop-off. We will confirm how you get back into town when we set the meeting time, so you are not left guessing at the edge of the ice.

Meals and drinks are not part of this outing, so eat before we collect you or bring a small snack of your own. The day is about the introduction and the fishing, not a sit-down meal on the ice.

Your guide runs the session and shows you the methods on the lake. Pack the warm layers and boots you already own. If you have questions about what we will have with us on the day, ask us in advance.

Many guests have never walked on ice like this, and that is a normal starting point. We begin with how to move, where to stand, and how to drill a hole, so you are not expected to know the ground before you arrive.

Your guide stays with you while you try the first holes. Tell us if you want to take the early part slowly, and we will keep the introduction at that pace until you feel steady on the snow.
