Two parts make up this four hour outing near Rovaniemi: an hour on a snowmobile through forest and lake ice, then an hour ice fishing on a wilderness lake. Pickup in Rovaniemi is included. A short briefing covers riding gear, helmet, gloves and how the sled moves before you leave the trailhead.
After pickup you are given warm riding gear, a helmet and gloves, and your guide walks through safety and the basics of sled control. The first minutes on marked trails stay steady so you can feel how the machine moves, then the hour-long safari runs through snowy forest, along frozen bogs and across lake ice at a moderate pace.
When you reach the wilderness lake, the second hour is ice fishing. Your guide opens a hole in the snow-covered ice and you work that quiet water, moving if the first spot stays still. The four hours include both blocks plus the run from town, and we confirm how you get back into Rovaniemi because a return drop-off is not part of this outing.
Forest trails and a wilderness lake outside Rovaniemi are the setting, chosen for quiet snow rather than a busy public shore. You travel there with us from the city, so you do not need to find the lake or the sled trail yourself.
We collect you in Rovaniemi. Share your hotel or cabin address so we can plan the run out. A return drop-off is not part of this outing, and we will confirm how you get back into town when we set the meeting time.
No snowmobile or ice fishing experience is required. The briefing covers how the sled moves, and the fishing hour starts with opening a hole on the lake so you are not expected to know the ice before you arrive.
You should be comfortable sitting on a snowmobile for about an hour and standing on a frozen lake for the fishing block, in Finnish winter weather. Wear warm layers under the riding gear we give you, and winter boots for the time on the ice. Tell us who is coming so we can shape the session around your group.
Winter guiding here has stayed in one household since 1979, now with a third generation on the snow. Finnish guides who know these forests and lakes keep the outing to your own group, with time for both the sled and the hole.
The day follows the product as it is written: one hour on the snowmobile and one hour ice fishing, inside a four hour outing from Rovaniemi. You get riding kit for the safari, then quiet time on wilderness ice with a guide who works here through the winter.
We collect you in Rovaniemi and fit warm riding gear, a helmet and gloves. Your guide walks through safety and the basics of sled control before anyone leaves the trailhead. Wear your own warm layers underneath, as you will go from the vehicle onto the snow.
The first minutes stay steady so you can feel the sled, then the hour-long safari runs through snowy forest, along frozen bogs and across lake ice. Speed stays moderate, with time to look at the pines and the open snow between the turns.
On the wilderness lake your guide opens a hole in the snow-covered ice and the second hour is ice fishing. You can stay at one hole or move if the first spot is quiet. When the fishing block ends we confirm how you get back into Rovaniemi.
You do not need either. The briefing covers safety and how the sled moves, and the first minutes on marked trails stay steady so you can feel the machine before the pace comes up. The fishing hour starts with opening a hole on the lake.
Your guide stays with you for both blocks. Questions are welcome while you are on the sled and while you are over the hole, and we can linger on the ice if the first spot is quiet.
This is an easy outing rather than a long hike. You should be comfortable sitting on a snowmobile for about an hour and standing on a frozen lake for the fishing hour, in Finnish winter weather.
Dress in warm layers you can add or remove under the riding kit, and wear winter boots with a decent sole for the time on the ice. We can pause between the two blocks so you can warm your hands.
Tell us the ages in your group so we can say whether the sled and the four hours will suit everyone who wants to come. The outing is an easy introduction, and your guide keeps the first minutes on the trail calm.
Everyone who joins should be able to sit on a snowmobile, stand on the ice, and follow simple safety instructions. Bring extra layers for younger guests, as they cool down faster once you stop moving.
Wear warm layers under the riding gear we give you, a hat, and winter boots. We supply the riding kit, helmet and gloves for the sled hour, then you will be on open ice for the fishing block.
Bring sunglasses if the snow is bright, and a small dry bag for your phone. Have your hotel or cabin address ready so we can plan pickup in Rovaniemi.
Ice fishing is a real hour on the water, not a guaranteed catch. Your guide opens a hole and you work that quiet lake, moving if the first spot stays still.
Some days the fish come quickly and some days they stay deep. The outing is still the sled hour, the wilderness lake, and time on the ice with someone who fishes here through the winter.
About one hour is the snowmobile safari and about one hour is ice fishing. The rest of the four hours covers pickup in Rovaniemi, the briefing, and the run out to the wilderness lake.
We keep the pace unhurried so you can learn the sled and settle over a hole rather than rushing both. We will confirm timings once we have your address.
The session needs a sound trail and a safe ice surface, so we watch the temperature and the state of the lake before we set out. Soft ice, a sudden thaw or a closed trail can mean we have to move your time or stop the day.
If we cannot run, we will be in touch as early as we can with the next step. Please treat this as a winter activity that depends on the ground staying hard enough to ride and to drill, not as an indoor session.
Pickup in Rovaniemi is included. Share your hotel or cabin address so we can plan the run out. We will send you a time once that address is with us.
This outing does not include a return drop-off. We will confirm how you get back into town when we set the meeting time, so you are not left guessing at the edge of the lake.
Meals and drinks are not part of this outing, so eat before we collect you or bring a small snack of your own. The day is about the sled hour and the fishing hour, not a sit-down meal on the ice.
Pack the warm layers and boots you already own. If you have questions about what we will have with us on the day, ask us in advance.
This outing pairs a one hour snowmobile safari with a one hour ice fishing block, inside four hours from Rovaniemi. A quiet lake ice fishing outing is four hours on the ice without the sled safari.
If you want both the forest trail and a hole on a wilderness lake in the same day, this is the combined session. If you only want time over a hole, choose the quieter lake session instead.
