A full day on the water offers a relaxed way to see Positano and Amalfi without rushing between places. Travel along the Amalfi Coast by private boat, enjoy time for swimming, and step ashore to explore both towns at your own pace. With a professional skipper handling the route, the day stays flexible and comfortable from start to finish.
Meeting your skipper at the Sorrento harbour marks the start of a relaxed day at sea. After a short safety briefing, the boat heads along the Sorrento coastline, passing rocky cliffs and quieter coves before reaching the Amalfi Coast. Time on board can be spent in shaded seating or sunbathing areas, with stops chosen for swimming and snorkelling when sea conditions allow.
Approaching Positano from the water gives a clear view of its hillside layout and waterfront. Free time ashore allows for wandering the streets, browsing shops, or finding a café near the beach. Later in the day, the route continues toward Amalfi, offering a different feel with its historic centre close to the shoreline and plenty of places to explore on foot.
The return journey to Sorrento rounds out the experience with a final cruise along the coast. As the pace slows, it’s a chance to relax on board, dry off after a swim, and enjoy the changing views as the boat heads back to the harbour.
Departure takes place from Piazza Marinai d’Italia in Sorrento, an easy-to-reach harbour area close to the town centre. Sorrento sits high above the sea, making the transition from town to open water quick and smooth once you leave the marina.
Both Positano and Amalfi are reached directly by boat, avoiding busy roads and giving access straight to their waterfronts. Positano is known for its steep streets and beach area, while Amalfi offers a flatter centre with cafés, shops, and historic sights close together, making both stops easy to explore during your free time.
Guests should feel comfortable boarding a boat from the dock and moving around on deck with minimal assistance. Children are welcome but must remain under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian, particularly during swimming stops and when getting on or off the boat.
Time is spent on open water for several hours, so anyone with concerns about sea conditions or balance should consider this before booking. Those with severe mobility limitations may find access challenging, as the experience is not suitable for wheelchair users.
Private tours are designed around flexibility, allowing the skipper to adapt the pace of the day to suit your group. Visiting both Positano and Amalfi in one trip gives a broader view of the coast while still leaving time to relax, swim, and explore ashore.
A varied fleet means groups can choose a boat that matches their size and preferred level of space. Combined with local knowledge of the coastline, the experience focuses on comfort, safety, and making the most of a full day at sea.
Meeting at the Sorrento harbour is followed by a short briefing before setting off along the coast. The morning usually focuses on cruising and swimming stops, with a relaxed pace to enjoy time on the water before arriving in Positano.
Later hours are split between free time ashore and continued cruising toward Amalfi, with the return to Sorrento taking place in the afternoon after both stops have been visited.
Time is managed to allow meaningful stops in both towns without feeling hurried. Free time ashore is balanced with cruising so you can explore key areas and still enjoy being on the boat.
Sea conditions and daylight can influence exact timings, but the skipper works to keep the day comfortable rather than packed.
Preferences can be discussed with the skipper at the start of the day. More time can be spent in one location if conditions allow, with flexibility built into the route.
Adjustments always depend on weather and sea state, as safety remains the priority when planning stops.
Reaching Positano and Amalfi by sea avoids coastal traffic and gives direct access to the waterfront. Arrival from the water also offers a clearer sense of how each town sits along the coast.
Departure is just as simple, stepping back on board without needing to manage transfers or parking.
Stops are chosen in calm areas when conditions allow, making them suitable for confident swimmers and beginners alike. Snorkelling equipment is provided, and guests can choose how long they stay in the water.
Anyone unsure about swimming can remain on board and enjoy the break without entering the sea.
Children of all ages can join, provided they are supervised at all times. Space on board varies by boat, so families may prefer larger options for extra room.
Swimming stops are optional, and life jackets are available for added reassurance.
A good portion of the day is spent cruising between destinations, broken up by swimming stops and time ashore. This balance keeps the experience varied without long periods in one place.
Cruising time also allows for rest, shade, and enjoying refreshments between activities.
