You meet at Anzio port for a full day that combines a fast ferry crossing with a long boat tour around Ponza. A bilingual tour leader stays with the group while a local captain handles the coastline, swim stops and lunch on deck.
Your day opens at Piazzale Sant'Antonio with check-in, ferry boarding and the roughly ninety-minute crossing to Ponza. Once ashore you transfer to a traditional boat for the main event: a five-hour circumnavigation with Roman fish ponds, white cliffs, sea caves and swim stops chosen for the day's wind, plus picnic-style pasta, wine and espresso served on deck.
After the circuit you usually have about an hour in the colourful harbour before the return ferry to Anzio. Optional snorkel hire is selected when you book; your confirmation lists times and meeting points. Live commentary is in English and Italian, with a free digital audioguide in Spanish, French and German on your phone.
Anzio sits on the Tyrrhenian coast south of Rome and is the mainland gateway for this trip. The meeting point is at the port area on Piazzale Sant'Antonio, postcode 00042, where staff direct you to the ferry and boat pier.
Ponza is the largest of the Pontine Islands, with a compact harbour and dramatic cliffs that drop straight into deep blue water. You spend most of the day on the water rather than hiking inland, so the experience is centred on coastal views and swim stops.
No boating or swimming experience is required. You should be comfortable sitting on a moving boat, climbing a short ladder after swims, and being in open water if you choose to enter the sea.
Infants must sit on an adult's lap on the ferry and boat. Strollers can be accommodated at the port, but space on deck is limited, so pack light for the day afloat.
Guides work this Anzio to Ponza route through the season and know which coves are sheltered on a given wind direction. Groups stay small enough that you can hear the commentary on deck and ask questions between swim stops.
Lunch is served on the boat so you do not lose time hunting harbour restaurants at midday. Ferry, boat and meeting instructions are coordinated as one booking, which keeps the long day easier to follow.
Meet at Piazzale Sant'Antonio at Anzio port, postcode 00042. Your tour leader will be at the check-in point named on your confirmation and will direct you to the correct ferry gate.
Arrive in good time for the morning departure; late arrivals may miss the crossing and the boat tour cannot be joined separately on the island without prior arrangement.
The fast ferry crossing is about 90 minutes each way when sea conditions are normal. Boarding closes shortly before departure, so factor in parking or train connections on the mainland.
Exact times are on your ticket and may shift slightly for weather, harbour traffic or seasonal timetables published by the ferry operator.
Yes. Your booking includes the round-trip fast ferry between Anzio and Ponza. You do not need to buy a separate ferry ticket for this product.
Your leader directs you to the correct gate at check-in. Keep your booking reference and any ID the ferry operator requests ready at the pier.
Yes, a picnic-style pasta lunch with water, local wine and espresso is served on the boat during the island circuit. Portions are prepared for a shared deck meal rather than a harbour restaurant sit-down.
Mention dietary needs when booking so the crew can plan alternatives where possible. You may still want a snack for the early morning before boarding.
Mask and snorkel rental is available on some rates when you select the option during booking. Sizes are standard adult and child sets collected at check-in.
Bring your own kit if you prefer a familiar mask fit, especially if you plan to spend long stretches in the water at multiple swim stops.
All ages are welcome on this day trip. Infants must sit on an adult's lap on the ferry and boat as required by the vessel operators.
Children should be supervised closely during swim stops and when moving on deck. Life jackets or buoyancy aids are provided according to local rules when you enter the water.
Captains adjust routes and may skip certain swim spots if conditions are unsafe. The day still focuses on coastal sightseeing from the boat when anchors cannot drop.
If the operator cancels for weather, you will be offered another date or a refund according to the cancellation terms on your booking confirmation.
Swimming is optional at each stop. You can stay on deck and enjoy the views if you prefer not to enter the water.
When you do swim, follow crew instructions on currents, ladder access back to the boat and staying within the marked area around the anchor line.
After the boat tour you usually have around one hour in the harbour before the return ferry. That is enough for a short stroll along the waterfront, gelato or a drink at a café.
It is not long enough for a major inland hike or a taxi tour to distant beaches, so plan any extra island exploring for another visit.
Free cancellation is available up to 24 hours before the start time. Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the start are not refunded.
Rules on your booking confirmation apply if a particular date carries different terms.
