Spend time on a frozen lake learning a traditional Arctic activity still practised by locals today. This small-group experience combines hands-on ice fishing with time around the fire, giving you a simple and authentic way to enjoy winter in Lapland. Suitable for families and beginners, the relaxed pace makes it easy to take part while enjoying the quiet surroundings.
The experience begins with pick-up for those staying outside the city centre, followed by a short drive north of Rovaniemi to a remote frozen lake. After arriving, there’s a brief walk through the forest before stepping out onto the ice. Your guide provides all the equipment and demonstrates how to drill a hole, set up your line, and understand the basics of ice fishing. Once ready, you can settle into the activity, enjoying the stillness while waiting for a catch.
While you fish, the guide prepares a fire on the shore, creating a warm place to gather when needed. Campfire snacks and hot drinks are served, giving you a chance to warm up and chat about life in the Arctic. If you catch a fish of suitable size, it can be cooked over the fire and shared. Smaller fish are returned carefully to the water. The pace remains relaxed throughout, with the guide always nearby to help or offer tips.
