From the open deck of a luxury yacht you watch Istanbul's shores turn gold as the Bosphorus widens between Europe and Asia. You share the cruise with a small group, with drinks and canapés served on board while a guide points out palaces, mosques and fortresses on both banks. Hotel pickup in Istanbul is available if you would rather go from your stay straight to the water without navigating the piers on your own.
Once you step aboard, the crew welcomes you and complimentary drinks and canapés are served at the table on deck as the yacht casts off from the quay. You settle in while the boat moves up the Bosphorus and the waterfront begins to light up along both shores, with plenty of time to look around rather than rush from one side of the deck to the other.
The route typically passes Dolmabahçe Palace, Ortaköy Mosque and Rumeli Hisarı, with the first Bosphorus Bridge overhead and wider views toward the Asian shore as the cruise continues. Your guide explains what you are seeing in plain language, and after the last light you return toward the starting point with drop-off or pier meeting as arranged.
The Bosphorus runs through the middle of Istanbul, with palaces, villages and forested hills packed along both the European and Asian banks. A sunset departure puts you on the water exactly when those shores start to glow, which is difficult to match from a viewpoint on land.
Boarding from a central waterfront point keeps the journey to the pier short, so more of your two hours is spent on deck rather than in traffic. Public transport and taxis serve the area if you prefer to make your own way there instead of using hotel pickup.
You do not need any sailing experience. You should be comfortable sitting on a moving boat for around two hours and following simple crew instructions about where to stand or sit when the yacht is under way.
All ages are welcome, including infants travelling with an adult. Tell us the ages in your group when you book so we can suggest seating on deck and confirm everyone has a comfortable spot for the cruise.
We are a TURSAB licensed Turkish travel agency based in Istanbul, with years of experience showing guests the city's waterfront from the water rather than only from the street. Your onboard guide stays with you for the full cruise and explains the landmarks as you pass them, without turning the evening into a formal lecture.
Drinks and canapés are included so you can relax on deck without arranging extra catering, and hotel pickup in Istanbul is available if you would rather not search for the pier in an unfamiliar part of the city on your first night.
You are collected from your hotel or meet at a waterfront point that is easy to find, then step on board as the crew welcomes you to the open deck. Complimentary drinks and canapés are served as the yacht leaves the quay, which gives you a few minutes to settle before the main landmarks appear along the shore.
Once you are under way, the city opens along both banks and your guide begins to point out what you are passing, starting with the European waterfront as the light softens.
The yacht follows the European shore past palaces and waterfront mosques, with Dolmabahçe Palace along the water's edge, Ortaköy Mosque at the pier square and the first Bosphorus Bridge spanning the strait above you. Your guide keeps the commentary light so you can photograph the facades and still hear the story of each stretch without feeling rushed.
There is time to move along the deck for a better angle as the boat passes each landmark, which is why this section of the cruise is popular with first-time visitors to Istanbul.
Further up the strait you pass Rumeli Hisarı at the narrows, then look across toward the Asian shore and landmarks such as Anadolu Hisarı, Küçüksu and Beylerbeyi as the sun drops. The bridges and hills often pick up warm colour in the last light, which is why this slot is timed for sunset rather than a midday run.
The cruise finishes back toward the starting point once the main viewpoints are behind you. Allow a little buffer around the two-hour window for hotel pickup or your return journey from the pier.
Hotel pickup is available for many stays in Istanbul. Share your hotel name so collection can be arranged for your sunset slot.
If you prefer to travel independently, we confirm an easy-to-find waterfront meeting point near public transport. Exact timing varies with the season and the light.
Hotel pickup is available for many guests staying in Istanbul. Share your hotel name when you book so collection can be arranged for your sunset departure.
You can also meet us at an easy-to-find waterfront point near public transport. We confirm the exact pier and timing with your confirmation so you are not guessing on the evening.
This is a shared sunset sailing. You join other guests on the yacht, with a maximum of twenty people on board so there is still room to sit on deck and move around for photographs.
If you would rather have the yacht to yourselves for a celebration or a private family evening, we offer a separate private Bosphorus cruise that keeps the whole deck for your group.
The cruise lasts about two hours on the water, which is enough time to pass the main landmarks on both shores without rushing. Hotel pickup may add a little extra depending on where you are staying in the city.
Sunset departures are planned around the light on your date. Your confirmation shows the scheduled slot so you know when to be ready at the hotel or at the pier.
Complimentary drinks and canapés are served on board once the yacht leaves the quay. You can sit at the table on deck while the boat moves up the strait and the city lights begin to show along both banks.
If you have a preferred drink or would like something non-alcoholic, mention this when you book so the crew can plan ahead rather than improvising on the evening.
Yes. Hotel pickup in Istanbul is available for this session. Add your hotel details when you book so collection can be planned for the correct departure time.
If you prefer to travel independently, we send a waterfront meeting point that is straightforward to reach by taxi or public transport, with the pier name and timing on your confirmation.
Groups run from one to twenty guests on this shared yacht. You sail with other travellers, and the crew keeps the deck comfortable for mixed ages rather than packing the space tight.
If you are booking for a larger party and want guaranteed space together, tell us the headcount when you enquire so we can check availability for your date.
There is no minimum age. Infants can join with an adult, and the yacht is stroller accessible with infant seats available if you ask ahead.
Let us know the ages in your group when you book so we can suggest seating on deck and confirm the cruise is a good fit for young children or older guests who prefer a steady pace.
Light cloud or cooler air often still makes for a pleasant evening on the water, and soft light can be very clear for photographs at sunset. Strong wind, rough water or unsafe conditions on the strait may mean we need to move your booking to another date.
We contact you as soon as we know whether the cruise can go ahead, because safety on the Bosphorus always comes before keeping to the original slot.
The route typically follows the European and Asian shores of the Bosphorus, passing palaces, mosques and fortresses as the light changes. Landmarks often include Dolmabahçe Palace, Ortaköy Mosque and Rumeli Hisarı, with the first bridge overhead and wider views toward the Asian shore later in the cruise.
Your onboard guide talks through what you are passing at a pace that leaves room for photographs. The exact stretches on the water can vary slightly with traffic and conditions that evening.
Wear comfortable shoes with a decent grip, as the deck can be damp or slick, and bring a light layer because the air often feels cooler once the sun drops. Sun protection still helps if the evening starts bright before sunset.
A camera or phone is useful for the palaces and bridges. Secure loose hats or scarves so nothing blows overboard while the yacht is moving.
