You will climb Erikindia on Morrón de Toix, a 70-metre sport line at 6a+ opened in 2021 by Omar Samper and Vicente Monerris, with a fifty-metre abseil to the start, a chimney and a finish through a hole in the rock. It is a guided coastal day for two climbers, with a guide who knows the approach, the pitch links and the way down.
We meet at the Maryvilla urbanisation, often at nine, and walk about twenty minutes to the Toix cliffs. After kit and the fifty-metre abseil, the first pitch is vertical and friendly at V to the stance before the chimney, the second is the chimney into an overhanging slab with a 6a+ move, and the third is about IV through the hole to the summit.
We pack up on top and walk about twenty-five minutes back to the cars. Five hours is a fair guide for the whole outing. Autumn, winter and spring are the usual seasons, with start times from eight onwards. If easterlies or heat make it a poor choice, we will look at another date rather than force a tired day on hot rock.
The Toix ridge above Calp is steep grey limestone with wide Mediterranean views. Winter and spring are the best months, when climbers come here to escape colder inland weather, and Maryvilla is the usual start for the walk in.
We send the parking pin close to the walk in once the date is set. Give yourself time on the coastal roads so you arrive ready to walk. Bring water, a snack and shoes that grip on the approach path; harness, helmet, shoes and the group kit are included.
You need outdoor climbing experience around 6a+, a calm head on exposed limestone and fitness for a four-to-five-hour coastal day. If you have only climbed indoors, start on a Granada top-rope instead.
Minimum age is 18. Two climbers per guide keeps the team compact on a route where talking at belays really matters. We take digital photos on the summit, and we can suggest another Toix line if you have a second day on the coast.
On a long route the useful thing we bring is local knowledge: where to park, how the face feels in the sun, and a descent we have done many times. You climb. We handle the rack, the route finding and the faff, and we take digital photos and videos when there is a safe stance for it. Your guide is a mountain guide who specialises in rock climbing and can work in English or Spanish.
We only take two climbers per guide on these days, which keeps belays moving on committing ground. Before we leave the car we will talk through the pitches, the descent and the timing so you know what the day looks like, and we would rather move the date than force a tired day on wet rock or a windy high face.
