You'll tackle an Oslob whale shark encounter and Badian canyoneering with a swim at Kawasan Falls on one action-packed day from Cebu. Jump, slide and swim through the canyon after snorkelling with the gentle giants, with lunch, all gear and hotel transfers included.
A pre-dawn departure from Cebu takes you south-east to Oslob for a morning whale shark encounter from a boat. Snorkel near the animals or watch from deck after a safety briefing; touching is strictly prohibited. Snorkelling gear is provided and the encounter window is kept short before your group travels west across Cebu to Badian.
At Badian you kit up with helmet, life vest and water shoes, then follow your guide through canyon jumps from around 20 feet, natural water slides and swims in deep lagoons before emerging at Kawasan Falls. Swim at the cascades, eat included lunch at a local restaurant nearby, then drive back to your hotel in Cebu City or Mactan in the evening.
On the south-east coast, Oslob is where whale sharks feed close to shore in calm morning waters. The coastal setting offers clear views of the open sea and the fishing villages along this stretch of south Cebu.
Badian Canyon lies inland in south-west Cebu, linked to Oslob by mountain roads across the island. Kawasan Falls marks the classic finish point for the canyon route, with tiered cascades and turquoise pools where many guests take a final swim.
Guests must be at least 16 years old and comfortable swimming in open water for the snorkelling and canyon sections. Reasonable fitness helps on this long, active day, though no prior canyoneering experience is required.
Individual canyon jumps can be skipped with your guide's help. Wear a swimsuit under quick-dry clothes and secure footwear with good grip for wet rocks throughout the afternoon gorge section.
Whale sharks and canyon adventure are combined in one guided day with transfers, equipment and lunch handled for you, so you can focus on the wildlife and the adrenaline rather than logistics.
Timing between Oslob and Badian is coordinated to fit the morning shark window and the afternoon gorge route, helping your group make the most of both experiences while keeping the pace comfortable across a packed itinerary.
Pickup is early from Cebu City, Mactan or Mandaue to fit both the morning whale shark window at Oslob and afternoon canyoneering at Badian in a single long day. Your driver confirms the exact collection time once we have your hotel details and know your accommodation, and guests on Mactan are often collected slightly earlier to keep the southbound schedule on track.
Expect a full day with significant driving between the south-east coast at Oslob and the south-west canyon country near Badian. Arrive ready in swimwear with a change of clothes packed for the wet canyon section later in the afternoon.
Round-trip hotel pickup, road transport between Oslob and Badian, canyon gear and lunch are all included in your tour for this combo day. Motorcycle transfers from the Badian briefing area to the canyon trailhead are also part of the package.
Your guide and driver stay with the group throughout the whale shark encounter, the cross-island drive and the canyoneering route that finishes at Kawasan Falls.
At Oslob you join a regulated whale shark encounter from a boat after a safety briefing on local rules and conservation guidelines. You may snorkel near the animals in the water or remain on deck and watch from above, depending on your comfort level and sea conditions during the morning window.
Touching the whale sharks is prohibited, and the encounter is kept to a defined time slot before your group travels west across Cebu to Badian for the afternoon canyon adventure.
At Badian you kit up with a helmet, life vest and water shoes before a short motorcycle ride to the canyon entry point. Your guide leads you through jumps from around 20 feet, swims in deep lagoons, natural water slides and boulder scrambles along the river gorge before you emerge at Kawasan Falls.
You can skip individual jumps with your guide's help if you prefer a less intense line through the canyon. Basic swimming confidence and reasonable fitness are important because much of the route is in water and on wet rock.
Lunch is served at a local restaurant near Kawasan Falls after you finish the canyon section and have time to swim at the cascades. Mention dietary requirements when you share your accommodation name so your guide can plan ahead where possible.
Bring snacks and water for the long morning drive and whale shark encounter, as there may be limited time between the Oslob stop and the afternoon canyon start depending on traffic and conditions.
Guests must be at least 16 years old for this combined adventure because of the active canyoneering section with jumps, sustained swimming and rocky scrambles through Badian Canyon. All participants need reasonable fitness and confidence in open water for both the morning snorkelling at Oslob and the afternoon canyon pools.
If anyone in your group is unsure about jumps or open-water swimming, your guide can suggest alternatives at specific sections and help everyone find a comfortable pace through the day.
Helmet, life vest, water shoes and snorkelling gear are included for the whale shark and canyon sections of the day. Bring your own swimsuit, towel and a full change of clothes because you will be wet for much of the afternoon in the gorge.
Water shoes with good grip help on wet limestone at Kawasan Falls after the canyon exit. A waterproof camera or phone pouch is ideal for both the morning boat trip and the canyon pools.
Wear a swimsuit under quick-dry clothes for the whole day so you are ready for the Oslob encounter and the Badian canyon without lengthy changing stops. Pack light where possible because you will carry minimal belongings through the wet canyon section with your guide.
Reef-safe sunscreen and a hat help during road transfers and the morning boat trip. Secure sandals or trainers for the short walks at briefing points complete a practical kit for this long combo day.
Sea conditions at Oslob and water levels in Badian Canyon can change with coastal weather and mountain rainfall on the same day. Your guide may adjust the order of activities, shorten individual sections or modify pacing if either the ocean encounter or the canyon route becomes challenging.
Light rain may still allow both activities with modified pacing and extra care on wet rocks. Your guide will explain any changes on the day and help your group make the most of each stop regardless of conditions.
We take one to five guests per group on this whale shark and canyoneering combo. Your guide stays with the same group through the morning encounter, the cross-island drive, the canyon route and the finish at Kawasan Falls.
Larger parties may need to split across separate departures. The small group size helps your guide manage pacing through both the regulated shark window and the technical canyon sections.
