About an hour and a half on a waverunner, guided through the mangrove channels behind Cancún's hotel zone. Life jackets go on at the dock, the guide leads, and you come back as a group. You meet at the marina where the machines are kept.
You meet at the marina, jacket on, and the briefing covers how to stop, how fast to ride, and how to keep your place in the line. The channels are narrower than they look from the dock, so the speed you are given is the speed for the whole loop, and that is what makes it relaxed.
The guide leads you in, mangrove on either side, and brings everyone back to the same dock. You hand the machine back there, and there is no snorkel stop bolted on. This one is simply the ride through the mangroves.
The loop uses the mangrove channels behind the hotel zone, not the open reef, which is a quieter and greener hour than people expect from Cancún. The meeting point is the marina dock, and the whole ride stays in those inland waterways.
Channels pinch in places, so the spacing is set before you leave, and the guide turns the group where everyone can still see the leader. They know which cuts are open and which ones would leave you stuck, and they simply do not take those.
The ride is out in the sun, so sun cream and a little water for before and after will make the dock time nicer. Shade is limited once you are in the channels, and you will feel that.
You follow the guide's speed and spacing, and you wear the life jacket from the dock until you are back. How to stop is shown while the machine is still tied up, which is a much better moment to find the switch.
At the dock you get the stop, the speed and the spacing on the machine you will ride, with a moment on it before anyone heads into the mangroves. The guide stays in front for the whole loop, so you are never guessing which channel is next.
Life jackets stay on until you are back on the dock. If a channel is closed or too shallow, the leader changes the loop and tells you before you enter it, and the whole line comes home together.
Hotel lobby pickup applies on routes that include transport; be ready at the stated departure time with photo ID for children if parks require it.
Self drivers receive meeting point coordinates and parking notes from the operator ahead of the activity date.
A meal is not part of this visit, so eat beforehand and bring water with you. A snack in your bag is useful if you get hungry between stops.
Bring more water than you expect to drink if you are out over the middle of the day. A hat makes the sunny stretches much easier.
Light rain does not usually stop the visit. Lightning, a rough sea or a track that is too soft can shorten or move a section, and the guide explains that before you continue.
You will hear the change before you kit up for the next part. The group stays together while that decision is made.
Children can join when they can follow the briefing with an adult beside them. The guide will say before a section starts if it is not suitable for someone in your group.
They need to be able to listen to the safety talk and stay with the group. The same briefing applies to adults and to children.
You do not need to swim on this visit, because you stay on the boat or the machine. A life jacket is fitted before you leave the dock.
If you are uneasy on the water, tell the crew before you board. They will show you where to sit, or where to ride, before the group leaves.
You can bring a phone or a camera if it is secure and you can spare a hand. Ask the crew before you attach anything to a helmet, a harness or a handlebar.
If someone is taking photos for the group that day, the crew will say so when you arrive. They will also tell you where to collect them afterwards.
If a ruin, a reserve or a beach asks for a local payment, the guide explains it before you get to the entrance. It helps to have a little cash with you in case that happens.
Tips for the crew are your own choice at the end of the day. The guide is the person to ask if you are not sure what a site is asking for.
Bring a dry bag for a phone and anything else you want to keep dry. Ask the crew when you arrive if there is somewhere to change and leave a bag.
Put your name on anything you set down. The group moves between stops, and bags are easy to mix up.
A phone in a waterproof pouch is the simplest option on a boat or in the water. Ask the crew before you strap a camera to a helmet or a machine.
Drones and flash are often not allowed near wildlife or at the ruins. Follow what the guide and the site ask on the day.
Wear light clothes you can move in, closed shoes, and a hat. This includes a waverunner, so sun cream and a bottle of water are worth having from the start.
Bring swimwear underneath if the visit includes a swim, and a dry layer for the van or the boat. Secure anything you do not want to lose.
You should come ready for about an hour and a half on a waverunner. Most of the time is outside, so the heat is as much a part of the day as the activity itself.
Take water when you need it, and tell the guide at the start if you want a slower place in the group. That is much easier than trying to catch them once everyone is already moving.
