About an hour on a waverunner from the Aquaworld dock, on the lagoon or along the hotel-zone coast, whichever the guide likes for the conditions. You hear the speed, the stop and the spacing before anyone is moving. You meet at the dock and finish back there.
You meet on Boulevard Kukulcán and the briefing happens while the machines are still alongside, which is when finding the stop switch is easy and even a bit of fun. About an hour is the riding time, and the talk sits in front of it instead of eating into it.
Life jackets are on before you leave, and you follow the leader for the loop they choose, other boats around, the gap they asked for actually mattering. The session ends at the same dock, and you hand the machine back there.
The dock has the lagoon on one side and the Caribbean on the other, hotels along the strip, and the guide tells you which water you are using before the engines start. You will know if it is the sheltered side or the sea side before you sit down properly.
You ride in sight of the leader the whole way, and the loop comes home to the dock you left. It is a shared ramp, so you kit up in the area the crew shows you, not across someone else's boat.
You will need to be at least 12 years old. Bring sun cream and some water for the wait on the dock, and have the cream on before you sit on the machine.
You follow the guide's speed and spacing, and the life jacket stays done up for the whole hour. The stop and the speed are shown while you are still tied up, which is the point of doing it there.
Stopping and speed are shown on the machine before the group is moving, and the guide stays in front at one pace. The stop switch is the thing they want you to find while you are alongside, because hunting for it underway is nobody's idea of a good time.
Jackets come off only once you are back on the dock. If the sea side is too choppy they keep the session on the lagoon and tell you that before you set off, so the hour is still the hour you came for.
Hotel lobby pickup applies on routes that include transport; be ready at the stated departure time with photo ID for children if parks require it.
Self drivers receive meeting point coordinates and parking notes from the operator ahead of the activity date.
You should come ready for about an hour on a waverunner. Most of the time is outside, so the heat is as much a part of the day as the activity itself.
Take water when you need it, and tell the guide at the start if you want a slower place in the group. That is much easier than trying to catch them once everyone is already moving.
A meal is not part of this visit, so eat beforehand and bring water with you. A snack in your bag is useful if you get hungry between stops.
Bring more water than you expect to drink if you are out over the middle of the day. A hat makes the sunny stretches much easier.
Light rain does not usually stop the visit. Lightning, a rough sea or a track that is too soft can shorten or move a section, and the guide explains that before you continue.
You will hear the change before you kit up for the next part. The group stays together while that decision is made.
Anyone taking part needs to be at least 12 years old, and children need an adult with them. The guide will say before a section starts if it is not suitable for someone in your group.
They need to be able to listen to the safety talk and stay with the group. The same briefing applies to adults and to children.
You do not need to swim on this visit, because you stay on the boat or the machine. A life jacket is fitted before you leave the dock.
If you are uneasy on the water, tell the crew before you board. They will show you where to sit, or where to ride, before the group leaves.
You can bring a phone or a camera if it is secure and you can spare a hand. Ask the crew before you attach anything to a helmet, a harness or a handlebar.
If someone is taking photos for the group that day, the crew will say so when you arrive. They will also tell you where to collect them afterwards.
If a ruin, a reserve or a beach asks for a local payment, the guide explains it before you get to the entrance. It helps to have a little cash with you in case that happens.
Tips for the crew are your own choice at the end of the day. The guide is the person to ask if you are not sure what a site is asking for.
Bring a dry bag for a phone and anything else you want to keep dry. Ask the crew when you arrive if there is somewhere to change and leave a bag.
Put your name on anything you set down. The group moves between stops, and bags are easy to mix up.
A phone in a waterproof pouch is the simplest option on a boat or in the water. Ask the crew before you strap a camera to a helmet or a machine.
Drones and flash are often not allowed near wildlife or at the ruins. Follow what the guide and the site ask on the day.
Wear light clothes you can move in, closed shoes, and a hat. This includes a waverunner, so sun cream and a bottle of water are worth having from the start.
Bring swimwear underneath if the visit includes a swim, and a dry layer for the van or the boat. Secure anything you do not want to lose.
