Join us for a delightful cycling tour through the scenic heart of the New Forest. Led by your personal guide, Steve, a fully qualified British Cycling Mountain Leader, this adventure offers the perfect combination of nature, history, and local charm. Whether you're a seasoned cyclist or new to off-road biking, this carefully curated route provides an unforgettable outdoor experience. With gravel tracks, forest paths, and village lanes, there's something for everyone along the way.
The tour starts from Brockenhurst Railway Station, a convenient spot for both locals and visitors. You’ll head out towards the Rhinefield Ornamental Drive, riding along gravel tracks through beautiful ancient woodland. The first stop is the Reptile Centre, where you might spot adders, frogs, and other local wildlife. From there, you'll continue to the Portuguese Fireplace, a historical site linked to World War I, offering a glimpse into the past.
Back on the gravel, the route winds through lesser-known parts of the New Forest, passing behind the Deer Sanctuary. If you're lucky, you may catch a glimpse of these graceful animals. The ride then moves onto quiet lanes leading to the quaint village of Burley. A stop at Shappen Café offers the chance to relax and enjoy a cappuccino and cake before continuing the journey.
As the tour progresses, you'll cycle along the old railway line, crossing open heathland. The final stretch takes you back to Brockenhurst, completing a well-rounded tour of the area. This route can also be shortened to suit your needs, ensuring everyone has an enjoyable experience.
