Rise from Nagano into the Tateyama mountains on a full-day journey along the famous Alpine Route, reaching the Murodo plateau at nearly 2500 metres. Beneath one of Japan's three sacred peaks, a guided walk across open highland scenery reveals snow-melt ponds, alpine meadows and sweeping views across the Roof of Japan.
Meet in Nagano and travel towards the Tateyama-Kurobe Alpine Route. At Ogizawa, board a sequence of mountain transports including trolley bus, cable car and the long Tateyama Ropeway, pausing at Kurobe Dam before the final climb to Murodo Station.
On the plateau, your guide leads an easy walk of around one hour through volcanic highland scenery beneath Mount Tate. Explore sacred mountain landscapes, seasonal alpine flowers or autumn colour, then descend with the group and return to Nagano in the evening.
