Join a 2 hour coached surf lesson in Essaouira designed for beginners and improvers. You will be guided from your first beach briefing through paddling, pop-ups and your earliest rides with confidence.
Start at the school with a personal briefing and your equipment fitted for the day’s Atlantic conditions. Your instructor explains the session flow, covers key safety points, and makes sure you feel ready before you head to the sand.
On the beach and in the water you will practise the foundations step by step. Beginners focus on whitewater waves and building trust in the sea, while improvers refine technique, timing and confidence so you can progress at a comfortable pace.
Essaouira sits on Morocco’s Atlantic coast and offers a long sandy bay that works well for lessons and progression. You get dependable conditions and plenty of space to practise, even when the beach feels busy elsewhere.
The relaxed coastal atmosphere, medina and harbour create a memorable setting before and after your session. It is a great place to learn surfing as part of a wider trip through Essaouira.
No prior surfing experience is required. This lesson is suitable for both beginners and improvers, as long as you can follow instructions and feel comfortable learning in open sea conditions.
Minimum age is 6 and the maximum participant weight is 130 kg. Younger participants should feel confident around water, and anyone joining should be able to swim comfortably.
Coaching is delivered by IKO-certified instructors who adapt every session to your level. You will get clear, practical feedback as you progress, whether you are starting from your first waves or sharpening technique.
Full equipment is included, and you can use changing rooms, lockers and hot showers on site to make the start and finish of your lesson simple and comfortable.
Arrive at the school on Rue Charif El Idrissi, meet your instructor, and get fitted with the right surfboard, leash and wetsuit for the day's conditions. Before heading down to the sand, the team explains how the session will run, checks your level and goals, and chooses the most suitable surf spot for your progression.
On the beach, your instructor runs through safety, warm up and the key skills for the day before you enter the water together. From there, the lesson focuses on positioning, paddling, popping up, balance and wave reading, with live coaching and feedback that helps beginners catch first waves and lets improvers sharpen technique with more control and confidence.
After the water session, return to the school for a quick debrief with your instructor and time to change comfortably before continuing your day in Essaouira. You can use the lockers, changing rooms and hot showers on site, which is especially helpful if you are heading back into the medina, travelling onward, or fitting the lesson into a wider day of exploring the coast.
The meeting point is 10 Rue Charif El Idrissi, Essaouira 44000, about 50 metres from the beach. Parking is available nearby, and taxis from Essaouira medina or the bus station usually take only a few minutes.
You will receive the Google Maps link after booking so you can head straight to the right entrance on the day.
No previous surfing experience is needed. This lesson is designed for complete beginners as well as improvers who want to refine their technique in a supportive setting.
Your instructor adapts the session to your level, whether that means learning how to paddle and stand up for the first time or working on timing, wave choice and confidence in changing conditions.
The minimum age for this lesson is 6 years old. Younger participants should feel comfortable around water and be able to follow instructions on the beach and in the sea.
If you are booking for a child and are unsure whether the session is the right fit, contact us in advance through Adventuro chat so we can help you choose the best option.
Yes. Each session includes a surfboard, leash and wetsuit selected for your size and the day's conditions, so you do not need to bring your own kit unless you prefer to.
You also have access to changing rooms, lockers and hot showers at the school, which makes the whole experience more comfortable before and after the lesson.
The coached session lasts 2 hours. That time includes the briefing, warm up, practical coaching in the water and feedback from your instructor as the lesson progresses.
It is worth arriving 10 to 15 minutes early so you can get changed, meet your instructor and be fully ready to start on time.
Meet at 10 Rue Charif El Idrissi, Essaouira 44000. The school is around 50 metres from the beach, making it quick and easy to move from the facilities to the water.
Your booking confirmation will include the Google Maps link so you can navigate directly to the meeting point on the day.
Yes, you should be able to swim confidently and feel comfortable in the sea. Even on beginner friendly days, you will be learning in an open beach environment rather than a pool.
Your instructor covers safety procedures before you enter the water and chooses conditions that suit the group, but basic swimming confidence is still essential.
If conditions at the main beach are not suitable for your lesson, the instructor may choose a better nearby surf spot based on your level and the day's forecast.
If that changes the plan or meeting instructions, you will be contacted in advance so you know exactly where to go and what to expect.
Bring swimwear, a towel and sun protection such as sun cream and a hat for before or after the session. Wetsuits and core equipment are provided as part of the lesson.
It is also a good idea to bring dry clothes for afterwards so you can make full use of the changing rooms and hot showers before heading back into town.
Lessons are kept small enough to give each participant clear feedback and real time coaching in the water. For this listing, the maximum class size is 8 people.
This allows the instructor to keep sessions safe, organised and tailored, while still creating a social atmosphere that works well for friends, couples and solo travellers.
Yes, improvers can use the session to work on technique, wave reading, timing and confidence in stronger conditions. The coach can select a suitable spot and adjust the session focus to match your current level.
If you already have experience, let the team know when booking so the lesson can be shaped around your goals rather than repeating basics you already know.
