Watch Rio shift from late afternoon light to evening tones on a three-hour sailing experience across Guanabara Bay. With a maximum of 20 guests onboard, this shared departure combines coastal navigation, landmark views and time on deck as the sun drops behind the city’s granite peaks.
Boarding takes place at Marina da Glória before the yacht heads out into Guanabara Bay. Once clear of the harbour, sails are hoisted when wind conditions allow, creating a proper sailing experience rather than simply motoring. Early in the route, clear views open towards Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf Mountain, framed by the water and surrounding hills.
As the yacht moves towards the mouth of the bay and the direction of Niterói, further landmarks come into view. You’ll pass historic coastal fortresses, Botafogo and Flamengo’s shoreline, Icaraí beach and the long bridge connecting Rio and Niterói. The crew share background on the city’s maritime and architectural history while music plays onboard and drinks are served.
Depending on sea state and timing, there may be the opportunity for a swim before sunset. As the light begins to soften, the skyline changes colour and the surrounding peaks cast longer shadows across the water. The return to the marina takes place during early evening, offering a final perspective of the city from offshore.
Departure is from Marina da Glória, centrally located within Guanabara Bay and easily accessible from Copacabana, Ipanema and central Rio. The marina provides sheltered access before heading into wider sections of the bay.
Guanabara Bay is one of Brazil’s most distinctive urban sailing environments. Surrounded by steep granite formations and historic coastal structures, it offers uninterrupted views of Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf Mountain and Rio’s waterfront districts.
This experience is rated moderate due to natural sea movement and wind exposure. Guests should feel comfortable on a sailing vessel and prepared for shifting conditions as the yacht moves through the bay.
Children must be accompanied by an adult. The minimum drinking age onboard is 18. The vessel is not wheelchair accessible due to steps and deck layout typical of sailing yachts.
Operating sailing tours in Rio since 2012, this family-led team combines professional seamanship with a genuine enthusiasm for sharing the bay with visitors and locals alike. Years of experience navigating these waters allow the crew to adapt routes to make the most of conditions on the day.
Continual investment in the fleet, onboard systems and crew training ensures a reliable and well-managed experience. Rather than offering high-volume sightseeing trips, the focus remains on small-group sailing with space to relax, learn and enjoy Rio from a different perspective.
