Standing on a paddleboard offers a fantastic way to experience lakes, canals and sheltered waterways from a completely different perspective. Combining relaxation, balance, gentle exercise and plenty of fun, these guided sessions are suitable for anyone looking to spend time on the water while learning new skills.
After meeting your instructor, you'll be introduced to the equipment before learning the basics of paddleboarding on dry land. Once on the water, you'll begin with simple techniques covering balance, paddling, turning and safe board control. Beginners are encouraged to progress at their own pace, while those with previous experience can focus on refining their skills.
As confidence grows, the session develops into a guided paddle around the chosen venue. Depending on the location, you may explore quiet lake shores, hidden bays, islands or peaceful stretches of canal. Along the way, your instructor will share local knowledge and offer tips to improve your paddling technique.
Beyond learning the fundamentals, there's also plenty of opportunity for fun. Many groups enjoy practising manoeuvres, playing balance games or taking an optional dip in the water. The session is designed to be relaxed, social and enjoyable while still helping participants build confidence on the board.
Operating across a wide range of waterways allows sessions to be tailored to different abilities and conditions. Popular Lake District venues include Windermere, Coniston Water, Ullswater, Derwent Water and Bassenthwaite, each offering a different paddling experience.
Further locations are available throughout Yorkshire and Lancashire, including Semerwater, the Lancaster Canal and sections of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. Private lakes, scout camps and other suitable venues can also be used for bespoke group sessions.
No previous paddleboarding experience is required. The activity is suitable for complete beginners and instructors provide guidance throughout the session.
Participants should be comfortable around water and prepared for the possibility of getting wet while learning and practising on the board.
Unlike crowded hire sessions, guided paddleboarding experiences provide expert instruction, local knowledge and carefully selected venues suited to the conditions on the day. This allows participants to learn safely while making the most of their time on the water.
Drawing on extensive experience across the region, Innes and the instructional team choose locations that offer enjoyable paddling, good learning environments and memorable surroundings. Their supportive approach helps participants quickly build confidence and enjoy the experience from the moment they step onto the board.
