Set out across snowy forest tracks with a team of huskies as they pull you through Lapland’s winter scenery. Each option includes a visit to a husky farm, where you’ll learn about the dogs and their training before heading out on the sled route chosen for your experience length.
Arrival at the husky farm begins with a warm welcome and an introduction to the dogs, including how they are trained, cared for, and prepared for sled work. After a short safety briefing, winter clothing is provided and the team is ready for the ride ahead. Each distance offers a different style of experience, ranging from relaxed short outings to more extended forest journeys.
The 5 km ride focuses on a shorter introductory sled experience where the dogs are driven by staff, making it a good first look at husky sledding. The 10 km route increases time on the sled, with options that may include self-driving depending on conditions and arrangement. The 20 km adventure offers a more extended journey through deeper forest trails, with a stronger focus on self-driving and time spent actively guiding your own husky team through open winter terrain.
After each ride, guests return to the farm for hot blueberry juice and gingerbread while learning more about the huskies and their daily life. Time is also available for photos and interaction with the dogs before heading back to the city.
The experiences take place at a husky farm located in the wider Rovaniemi wilderness area, surrounded by forest landscapes typical of Finnish Lapland. The setting offers quiet snowy trails, open woodland routes, and natural surroundings that suit sled dog travel throughout the winter season.
Access varies slightly depending on the chosen option, with some departures including pick-up from selected accommodation areas and others meeting at a central city location. The farm itself sits outside the main urban area, allowing for direct access to forest trails without long travel times once on site.
Participation requirements vary slightly depending on distance and activity type. Younger children may join selected routes, with age and height restrictions applied for safety during sled riding or passenger seating.
All guests should be comfortable spending time outdoors in cold conditions and must follow guide instructions throughout the experience. Self-driving options require basic understanding after instruction, but no prior sledding experience is needed.
Different route lengths allow the experience to suit a range of preferences, from shorter introductory rides to more involved forest journeys. Each option is structured around the same husky farm visit, giving a consistent introduction to the dogs regardless of distance chosen.
Guides and farm staff focus on animal care, safety, and clear instructions before departure, ensuring guests feel confident before setting off. The combination of sled riding, farm interaction, and warm refreshments creates a well-paced experience across all options.
The 5 km ride is the shortest experience and focuses on a more relaxed introduction to husky sledding. It is usually staff-driven and allows guests to enjoy the scenery and dogs without needing to control the sled.
The 10 km option offers more time on the trail and may include self-driving depending on conditions and farm arrangements. The 20 km experience is the longest, giving more time actively guiding the sled through forest routes and working with the husky team.
No previous experience is needed, as instructions are given before the ride begins. Guides or staff explain how to stand on the sled, control speed, and assist the dogs during the journey.
For self-driving sections, the terrain is selected to be manageable after briefing. Support is available throughout the ride if adjustments or help are needed.
Winter clothing is provided, including insulated overalls, boots, gloves, and other cold-weather gear. These are designed for outdoor conditions during sledding and time at the farm.
Wearing warm base layers underneath is recommended for added comfort. Wool socks and thermal clothing help maintain warmth during longer outdoor sections.
Yes, children can join depending on the specific ride length and age or height rules. Younger guests are often passengers rather than drivers, and safety rules are followed at all times.
The husky farm visit is suitable for families, with time spent meeting and learning about the dogs. Staff remain present throughout to ensure safe participation.
Yes, there are several stops throughout the experience where photos can be taken, both during the farm visit and after the sled ride. The snowy forest and husky area provide natural backdrops.
Staff are usually available to help take group photos if needed. Time is also given after the ride for additional pictures with the dogs.
