Four safari formats share the same Arctic forest around Rovaniemi: a family 1-hour run with a heated children's sleigh, a private 1-hour outing, a small-group 1-hour ride aimed at adults, or a 2-hour safari when you want longer on the trails. You ride newest-generation snowmobiles with a guide who keeps the group small, and we collect you from stays within 17 km of the city centre before kit and briefing at the base.
On the forest trails around Rovaniemi you ride newest-generation snowmobiles in a small line, with the guide setting a pace that matches who is in the group. Twin driving is normal, photo stops appear where the trail opens up, and on the family format younger children under 140 cm sit in the heated sleigh behind the guide while parents take the handlebars. Open snow, pine corridors and frozen clearings give you a proper Arctic ride without needing any previous time on a machine.
How long you stay on the snow depends on which of the four formats you pick: about 1 to 1 hour 15 minutes on the family, private and small-group 1-hour safaris, or around two hours on the longer outing. The private run is your own party and guide; the small-group and 2-hour options lean adult. Briefings stay calm so first-timers learn the controls before anyone commits to speed, and the outing ends back at the base once riding time is done.
Arctic forest and frozen clearings sit a short transfer from Rovaniemi on the Arctic Circle, so you are on the snow quickly instead of spending the morning in a van. Pine stands, machine tracks and wider snowfields change with the day, and the guide picks a line that suits the group's skill and the conditions underfoot.
Pickup covers hotels, apartments and holiday rentals within 17 km of the city centre, or you can start from the office in town. The map pin reflects the Rovaniemi meeting area; the riding itself happens on maintained winter trails just outside the city.
Drivers must be at least 18 and hold a valid Category B car driving licence, with the physical card in your pocket. Finnish traffic rules do not accept photos or digital copies. Passengers do not need a licence, and twin driving lets two licensed adults take turns on one machine.
Children from 3 years can join the family safari, with under 140 cm in the heated sleigh and taller children as passengers when they can hold on safely. Wear thermal base layers and thick socks under the kit we provide, and tell us in advance about any medical condition that could affect a safe ride. The outing is not recommended from the fourth month of pregnancy because of vibration, and alcohol and drugs are not allowed before or during the ride.
The team brings together Finnish and Spanish guides who have spent years leading snowmobile groups in Lapland, with separate family and adult departures so the pace matches who is on the machines. Groups stay at eight or fewer on shared outings so one guide can watch every rider, and larger parties get a dedicated guide rather than joining a long convoy.
Machines are current-generation snowmobiles prepared for Arctic cold, and the season runs from December through April when the trails are in their best shape. Twin driving is standard, solo driving is available as an extra on most formats, and the private 1-hour safari includes solo machines for groups of up to five. Briefings stay unhurried so first-timers feel settled before the forest.
We collect you from your stay within 17 km of Rovaniemi city centre, or you meet us in town, and we get everyone into thermal overalls, boots, gloves, helmet and balaclava. Once the group is ready we move to the snowmobile base, where the machines are already prepared for the day's conditions.
Your guide talks through the controls, spacing, braking and how we ride as a group, then checks that every driver has a physical Category B licence. There is time to sit on the machine, ask questions and feel settled before anyone heads onto the trail. Children under 140 cm on the family safari are settled into the heated sleigh at this point.
You ride through snowy forest and open winter country around Rovaniemi. Riding time is about 1 to 1 hour 15 minutes on the family, private and small-group safaris, or around 2 hours on the longer safari. The route and pace follow the group's skills and the snow on the day, rather than a rigid timetable.
We pause along the way for photographs and a look at the landscape, then return to the base to hand back the kit. If you used pickup, we take you back to your stay or another agreed point inside the 17 km area, with time to thaw out and talk through the ride.
No previous time on a snowmobile is required. Your guide walks through the controls, braking, spacing and how to lean on the trail before anyone leaves the base, and you have a chance to get used to the machine at a calm pace.
First-timers and more practised riders join the same outing. The guide sets the speed from how the group is actually riding, so beginners are not rushed and confident drivers still get a proper run through the forest.
Children from 3 years can join the family 1-hour safari. Anyone under 140 cm travels in our heated sleigh, pulled by the guide's snowmobile, which is built to keep them warm even on a proper Arctic day. Parents then drive while the younger ones stay seated and looked after.
Children over 140 cm can ride as a passenger behind an adult when they can hold on safely. That passenger option also applies on the private, small-group and 2-hour safaris. The small-group and 2-hour outings are aimed at adults, so younger children belong on the family safari.
The family 1-hour safari is built around children and the heated sleigh, with riding time of about 1 to 1 hour 15 minutes. The private 1-hour safari is your own group and guide with a similar riding time, and solo driving is included when you are five or fewer. The small-group 1-hour safari is for adults who want more time on the machines, with children over 140 cm welcome as passengers.
The 2-hour safari keeps that small-group feel and adds a longer spell on the trails, around two hours of riding, so you cover more ground than the shorter options. All four follow the same flow of kit, briefing and forest riding. Choose the format that matches who is travelling and how long you want on the snow.
Anyone who wants to drive must be at least 18 and hold a valid Category B car driving licence. Finnish traffic rules require the physical card on the day. A photo, screenshot or digital copy is not enough, so pack the real licence with your other documents.
Passengers do not need a licence. If only one person in your pair holds Category B, that person drives and the other rides behind, or you stay on twin driving and swap when both of you are licensed.
We collect you from hotels, apartments and holiday rentals within 17 km of Rovaniemi city centre, and we drop you back afterwards. You can also start from the office in town if that is easier.
If you are staying farther out than 17 km, please make your own way to the city meeting point. Share your stay address ahead of the day so we can plan the round and keep the start time honest.
We provide thermal overalls, winter boots, gloves, a helmet and a balaclava, so you do not need to own Arctic outerwear. Underneath, wear warm thermal base layers, a thermal top and thick socks, because the kit works best over proper insulation rather than a single cotton layer.
Comfortable, flexible clothing is better than anything bulky or restrictive. Sunglasses or clear glasses help on bright snow days. Leave valuables you do not need at your stay, and keep your physical driving licence somewhere you can show it before we leave.
Twin driving is the standard setup on the family, small-group and 2-hour safaris. Two people share one machine and take turns on the handlebars, which is the easiest way to learn and keeps the group compact. Solo driving is available as an extra on those formats and is arranged at the office.
On the private 1-hour safari, solo driving is included for groups of up to five. If that private group is larger, any extra solo machines are arranged at the office before you head to the base.
On the family, private and small-group 1-hour safaris you ride for about 1 to 1 hour 15 minutes, depending on the pace and how quickly everyone settles in. The 2-hour safari gives you around two hours on the snow, which is enough to go farther than the shorter outings without turning the day into a full expedition.
Kit, briefing and transfers sit around that riding time, so plan on about 3 hours door to door for the 1-hour options and about 4 hours for the 2-hour safari. We do not race between photo stops. If the group is comfortable, we often linger a little longer on the trails.
Eight guests is the usual shared-group size, because that is the number a single guide can look after properly on these trails. When eight or more of you travel together, we run the outing as a private experience with your own guide rather than folding you into a mixed departure.
Larger families and friend groups are welcome. Share your headcount ahead of the day so we can match machines, sleigh space and pickup. We would rather give you your own guide than stretch a mixed group past a safe size.
If a machine is damaged, the driver is responsible for repair costs up to a stated maximum per snowmobile. An optional self-liability waiver can be bought at our office on the day, before you start, and that lowers or removes that maximum depending on the waiver you choose.
Travel insurance that specifically covers snowmobiling and winter activities is recommended. Your guide briefs you on how to handle the machine before you leave, and speeds stay modest so the ride stays controlled. Ask at the office if you want the waiver explained before you put a helmet on.
