Spend the day on two sides of a Lapland winter: a snowmobile run through Arctic forest, then a slower walk on snowshoes at Vikaköngäs. Riding time is about 1 to 1 hour 15 minutes, after which you leave the machines and continue on foot with a briefing for both activities. We collect you from stays within 17 km of Rovaniemi city centre and keep the group to eight so both halves stay personal.
The day starts like a short safari: pickup or a meet in town, winter kit, a driving briefing, then time on newest-generation snowmobiles through forest and open snow. You ride in a line with photo stops, twin driving if two of you share a machine, and speeds kept modest, usually up to 40 km/h, so the guide can watch every rider.
After about 1 to 1 hour 15 minutes on the snowmobiles you leave the machines and continue to Vikaköngäs for snowshoes. The guide shows you how to walk in them, then leads you through quieter woodland away from the machine tracks. Plan on around five hours from first collection to last drop-off, with the walk deliberately slower so you feel the contrast between engines and footsteps in the same winter.
The snowmobile section uses forest and winter trails just outside Rovaniemi, close enough that you are on the snow before the morning or afternoon disappears. The second half moves to Vikaköngäs, a woodland area where the walk sits away from the safari line and the noise of the machines.
Both routes change with snow and weather. We collect you from hotels, apartments and holiday rentals within 17 km of the city centre, or you start from the office on Kansankatu, and we return you the same way after the snowshoe walk.
This day is for adults and needs at least two people to run. Anyone driving a snowmobile must be 18 or over and bring a physical Category B car licence. You do not need previous time on a snowmobile or on snowshoes. Both briefings happen before you start each half, so first-timers are expected.
Wear thermal base layers and thick socks under the kit we provide. Tell us in advance about any medical condition that could affect a safe ride or a walk in deep snow. The snowmobile half is not recommended from the fourth month of pregnancy because of vibration. Alcohol and drugs are not allowed.
Operators here have run snowmobile seasons in Lapland for years and treat the snowshoe half as a proper lesson, not a token add-on at a car park. You get both winter activities in one guided day instead of splitting them across two trips, with the same small-group ethos on the machines and on foot.
Eight is the usual maximum, so neither the ride nor the walk turns into a queue. Twin driving is standard on the snowmobiles, with solo driving available as an extra. Larger parties of eight or more travel with their own guide from the first trail to the last snowshoe track.
We collect you from your stay within 17 km of Rovaniemi city centre, or you meet us at the office on Kansankatu. Thermal overalls, boots, gloves, helmet and balaclava go on here, then we move to the snowmobile base for the first briefing.
After the driving briefing you ride for about 1 to 1 hour 15 minutes through snowy forest and Arctic trails, with stops for photos. The route and pace follow the group's skill and the snow on the day. Twin driving is the standard setup.
You leave the machines and continue to Vikaköngäs. The guide shows you how to use the snowshoes, then leads a walk through woodland away from the snowmobile tracks. The line changes with weather and snow depth.
After the walk we return kit and take pickup guests back to their stay or another agreed point inside the 17 km area. Plan on around 5 hours for the whole outing from first collection to last drop-off.
No. The snowmobile briefing covers the controls, spacing and trail rules before you leave the base. The snowshoe briefing at Vikaköngäs shows you how to walk, turn and manage deeper snow before the group sets off on foot.
First-timers are the usual guests. The guide sets both paces from the people in front of them, so you are not expected to arrive already competent at either activity.
You start on snowmobiles for about 1 to 1 hour 15 minutes, with photo stops on forest trails around Rovaniemi. After that you leave the machines and continue to Vikaköngäs for the snowshoe walk.
The whole outing is around 5 hours once you include kit, transfers and both briefings. The walk is slower on purpose. That is the change of pace the day is built around.
No. This combo is for adults only. There is no heated sleigh, and both the ride and the walk are paced for an adult group.
If you are travelling with younger children, the family 1-hour safari is the better fit. This day needs at least two adults to run.
Anyone who drives a snowmobile needs a valid Category B car licence and the physical card in their pocket. A phone photo is not accepted. Passengers on a shared machine do not need a licence.
You do not need any ticket or qualification for the snowshoe half. The guide teaches that on the day.
Vikaköngäs is a forest area used for the snowshoe half, away from the snowmobile trails you have just ridden. The guide chooses the line from snow and weather on the day, so the exact path is not fixed.
It is a walk, not a mountain day. You should be comfortable moving outdoors in winter for a stretch after already riding. If you have a knee, hip or balance concern, tell us in advance so we can say whether the walk is a good idea.
Yes, from hotels, apartments and holiday rentals within 17 km of Rovaniemi city centre, with drop-off on the same radius. You can also start from the office on Kansankatu.
Because the day has two locations, a clear pickup address helps us keep the transfers tight. If you are staying farther out than 17 km, please make your own way to the office.
Twin driving is included. Solo driving is an extra, arranged at the office before the ride. The snowshoe half is on foot for everyone, so a solo machine only applies to the first part of the day.
If you want your own snowmobile, mention that when you arrive so we can match the fleet to the group of two or more.
We provide thermal overalls, boots, gloves, a helmet and a balaclava for the ride, and snowshoes for the walk. Wear thermal base layers and thick socks underneath, because you will be outside for several hours across two activities.
A spare pair of gloves helps when you switch from handlebars to snowshoe straps. The outer kit is shared across the day, so dress so you can stay warm when the engines stop and the walk begins.
Two is the minimum for this outing to run, so a couple or a pair of friends is enough. You still get the same briefing, the same riding time and the same snowshoe walk as a fuller group.
If your plans change and you drop to one person, contact us. A single guest cannot hold the day on their own under the current setup.
The driver is responsible for repair costs up to a stated maximum per machine. An optional self-liability waiver can be bought at the office before you start, and that lowers the maximum if you choose it.
Travel insurance that covers snowmobiling and winter activities is recommended. The snowshoe half has no machine liability, but the same insurance is still useful for a day outdoors in Arctic conditions.
