Day one travels from Huaraz through the Callejón de Huaylas to Cashapampa, then walks into Llamacorral camp around 3750m. Day two continues past Ichiccocha and Hatuncocha, with an optional push toward Alpamayo Base Camp views before camping at Taullipampa around 4250m.
Day three climbs the zigzag path to Punta Union at 4750m for Cordillera Blanca panoramas, then descends toward Cachinapampa. Day four is a shorter walk to Vaquería and the road return to Huaraz. Expect moderate challenge, cold camps and classic Blanca scenery across about 42km.
The four day pacing keeps the classic Santa Cruz route coherent without rushing Punta Union into an overloaded single day. Guides manage camp logistics and daily timing while you focus on the valleys and pass.
Hotel pickup, Cashapampa start and Vaquería finish keep transfers clear for travellers based in Huaraz.
Leave Huaraz around 07:00 by private vehicle through Tarica, Marcara, Carhuaz, Yungay and Caraz toward Cashapampa. Begin walking through a vegetated valley that widens into mountain scenery before camping at Llamacorral around 3760m after four to five hours on trail.
Settle camp, hydrate and rest. The first overnight is lower than Taullipampa, which helps the approach feel paced.
After breakfast around 07:00, continue through Santa Cruz valley past Ichiccocha and Hatuncocha. From the Alpamayo crossing you can ascend toward Arhuaycocha for views of Alpamayo Base Camp and surrounding peaks before descending to Taullipampa camp around 4250m.
Plan for five to six hours of walking. Keep snacks ready for the long valley sections.
Breakfast around 07:00 starts the hardest day: a zigzag ascent to Punta Union at 4750m with panoramic views of Artesón, Quitaraju, Santa Cruz, Pucajirca and Taulliraju when skies are clear. Descend into Huaripampa valley toward Paria and on to Cachinapampa camp around 3750m after seven to eight hours.
Pace the climb and use rest stops. The pass is the high point of the trek.
After breakfast around 07:00, walk two to three hours down a local road through Huaripampa valley toward Vaquería. Meet transport for the return drive to Huaraz.
Expect a lighter final walking day after the pass. Keep the afternoon free once back in town.

Pickup is from Huaraz around 07:00 for the drive through the Callejón de Huaylas to Cashapampa, where the walk begins toward Llamacorral.
Confirm your hotel address and be ready with trek kit for the first valley day.
You camp at Llamacorral, Taullipampa and Cachinapampa along the route. Expect cold nights and simple mountain camp facilities.

Punta Union at 4750m is the highest point, usually on day three after a long zigzag ascent from Taullipampa.
Acclimatise in Huaraz before day one when you can. Pace yourself on the pass day.
Clear days can open views of Alpamayo, Artesonraju, Taulliraju and other Cordillera Blanca peaks from valleys and the pass.
Cloud still changes what you see. The turquoise lakes and valley walks remain central even without perfect summit views.
No fixed minimum age is published. The trek suits travellers who can handle multi day walking at altitude with camping.
Ask the team before travel for younger travellers or anyone with medical questions related to altitude.
Spend time in Huaraz before departure and train for consecutive hiking days. Broken in boots matter more than brand new kit.
Tell your guide early if you feel unwell. Altitude can affect even fit hikers on the pass day.
Mountain weather can change plans, yet the trek rarely stops for ordinary conditions. Safety still comes first on the high pass.
If a change is needed, the team will be in touch. Keep messages open before early starts.
Bring sturdy boots, warm layers, sleeping bag, flashlight, sun protection, raincoat, snacks and personal medications.
Pack light but warm for camp nights around 3750m to 4250m.
Hotel pickup and return logistics in Huaraz, guided four day itinerary, camp support and meals as provided form the core package.
Personal insurance, tips, some personal kit and park fees if charged separately remain outside the core package unless clearly included for your visit.
