Surfers who already feel comfortable at the peak often reach a stage where small technical changes make the biggest difference. This Proficient Surf Programme is a two-day intensive course for experienced surfers who want to improve wave selection, manoeuvres, confidence and independence in the water.
Over two intensive sessions, the programme focuses on improving performance for surfers who already catch waves frontside and backside. Your instructor will look at your current technique, positioning and decision making, then set personalised goals to help you progress more effectively.
In the water, coaching may focus on moving more confidently at the peak, selecting better waves, refining paddling technique and improving key manoeuvres such as bottom turns, advanced pumping, top turns and cutbacks. Real-time feedback helps you adjust your surfing during the session rather than waiting until afterwards.
Away from the water, video analysis and dryland exercises are used to break down movement patterns and correct technical details. The course also explores forecast reading, emotional control, managing fear in more challenging conditions and making better decisions in busy lineups. By the end, the aim is to help you surf with more autonomy and a clearer plan for future progression.
Instead of being fixed to one spot, this programme searches for the best beach of the day based on conditions. Sessions may take place in Somo or at nearby beaches in Cantabria, depending on waves, wind, tides and what will best support learning.
Cantabria offers a wide range of surf spots, giving experienced surfers opportunities to practise in conditions suited to their level. This flexibility helps create more effective coaching sessions and allows surfers to learn how different beaches respond to changing forecasts.
Good swimming ability and previous surfing experience are required. This programme is intended for surfers who can already catch waves at the peak and ride both frontside and backside.
Comfort in busier lineups and changing conditions is beneficial. The course is designed to refine existing skills, not introduce surfing from the beginning.
With a detailed and analytical coaching style, Andrea and the team help experienced surfers understand the technical and mental parts of progression. Their approach combines in-water feedback, video review and practical exercises to make improvements clearer.
The programme is built around personal goals rather than generic advanced coaching. By adapting each session to the surfer, the team can focus on the changes that will make the biggest difference to performance and confidence.
This programme is for surfers who already have solid experience in the water. You should be comfortable catching waves at the peak and surfing both frontside and backside.
It is best suited to people who want to refine technique, improve wave selection, gain confidence in more challenging conditions and become more independent in their surf decisions.
Depending on your current level, coaching may include bottom turns, advanced pumping, cutbacks and top turns. The instructor will focus on how you move through each section of the wave.
Dryland demonstrations and video analysis help break these movements down so you can better understand timing, body position and where adjustments are needed.
It may be too advanced for surfers who are still working on basic take-offs or consistency. You should already feel comfortable surfing unbroken waves and positioning yourself at the peak.
If you are not yet ready for advanced manoeuvre coaching, the Intermediate Surf Programme may be a better fit.
Video analysis allows you to see your surfing from outside the water. This helps identify posture, timing and movement patterns that may be limiting your progression.
Your instructor will use the footage to provide specific corrections, making it easier to understand what to change during future sessions.
Not necessarily. The programme may take place in Somo or at nearby beaches in Cantabria, depending on where conditions are best for learning.
This is especially useful for proficient surfers, as choosing the right beach for the conditions is an important part of becoming more independent.
Forecast reading helps you understand swell, wind, tides and how different beaches respond to changing conditions. This knowledge can help you choose better sessions in the future.
The aim is to develop your judgement so you can make more informed decisions without relying entirely on instructors or other surfers.
Yes, managing fear and emotional control are part of the programme. Coaching may include strategies for staying calm, handling wipeouts and making better decisions under pressure.
The goal is not to push surfers beyond safe limits, but to build confidence and control in conditions that are appropriate for their level.
