Spend two hours on Miami Beach with an instructor who is there only for your party, whether you are standing up for the first time or tidying your wave choice. The session starts on the sand, then moves into the ocean so you can paddle, pick a wave and ride with notes after every attempt. You can book as one person or bring a small group of up to six and still keep the coach to yourselves.
Your instructor starts with a short land session so the plan matches your party's level, covering safety, how the ocean looks that day, paddling and the pop-up before you get wet. You then paddle out together and work wave by wave, with the coach beside you for timing, stance and which wave to take rather than sharing a public group. Beginners stay in the white water and work on a clean pop-up, while more experienced riders move towards better positioning when the swell allows.
The rest of the two hours is spent in the ocean with real-time notes after each ride, and any remaining time is yours to keep practising those movements while the coach stays close. On quieter days the land work still happens and you can keep using the boards in the water. You finish back at the parking lot, collect your things and dry off.
The lesson uses South Pointe Beach at the bottom of Miami Beach, a wide sandy stretch with room to brief on the sand and then walk straight into the Atlantic. You meet at the parking lot on 3 Washington Avenue, a short walk from the water, with shops and buses nearby if you are staying in South Beach.
Your instructor chooses a patch of beach that fits the swell and your ability, keeping first-timers in manageable white water and giving stronger riders a line with a bit more face when the ocean allows. After you finish you can change at the lot and stay on the beach, or walk towards South Pointe Park.
Anyone from 5 years old can join when they are happy in the sea and an adult is part of the booking for younger children. You do not need a previous lesson. The private format is there so a complete beginner and an upper intermediate rider can both use the same two hours without sharing a public group.
Bring swimwear, a towel and water. Mention medical concerns that affect swimming or impact before you book, and tell the instructor your level on the sand so the water time is spent on the right drills.
The coach works only with your party, so feedback is aimed at your paddle, your stance and the wave in front of you. That is the point of a private lesson on Miami Beach: more rides with notes, less waiting while a larger group takes turns.
Instructors are professional and certified, and the two hours follow a simple rhythm of land briefing, water coaching and free practice. You leave with time in the Atlantic and a clearer idea of what to repeat the next time you paddle out.
You'll meet at the parking lot on 3 Washington Avenue and walk to the sand for a 20 to 30 minute briefing. Your instructor checks the conditions, covers safety and runs through paddling and the pop-up before anyone gets wet. This is when you collect boards, store bags if you need to, and agree what you want from the two hours.
Most of the next hour is in the ocean, with the instructor beside you for paddle timing, wave choice and how you stand. Beginners stay in the white water and work on a clean pop-up. More experienced riders move towards better positioning and a longer ride when the swell allows.
The last stretch of the lesson is yours to keep practising while the coach stays nearby with short notes rather than a full restart. On very flat days you still do the land work, then use the boards in the ocean, with a stand-up paddle option if your instructor offers it. You finish back at the parking lot, collect your things and dry off.
You'll meet at the Miami Beach parking lot at 3 Washington Avenue, FL 33139, next to South Pointe Beach. After you book, the team will confirm the exact place to stand so you can walk from the lot to the sand without circling the block.
Give yourself a few extra minutes to park and change. Public transport serves this end of Miami Beach if you would rather leave the car behind.
Children from 5 years old can join this private session when an adult is booking with them and the instructor agrees the child is ready for the ocean. The lesson is written for beginners through to upper intermediate surfers, so the coaching changes with whoever is in front of the coach.
Younger riders spend more time on the sand and in the white water close to shore. Older or more experienced guests move into wave selection and board control sooner once the briefing is done.
You can book this as one person, or share the instructor with friends or family up to a maximum of six. The coach stays with your party only, so you are not folded into a public group.
If the people in your booking are at different levels, say so at the start. Your instructor will split the water time so first-timers and improvers both get useful notes rather than one plan that fits nobody.
Yes, a surfboard is included for each person in the two-hour private lesson. You do not need to hire one separately or carry a board across Miami Beach unless you want to use your own.
Pack swimwear, a towel and drinking water. If someone in your party already has a favourite board, mention it when you book so the briefing can allow for that.
The first 20 to 30 minutes are usually on the sand: safety, how the ocean looks that day, paddling and the pop-up. You then spend around 60 to 80 minutes in the water with the instructor beside you, working on timing, stance and which wave to take.
Any time left is yours to keep practising those movements while the coach stays close enough to correct you. On days with almost no swell, the land work still happens and you can keep using the boards in the ocean, including on a stand-up paddle board if the instructor offers that option.
Wear swimwear you can move in, and bring a towel plus water for the briefing and the session in the sea. A rash vest is useful if you have one, but it is not required for the lesson to go ahead.
You can leave bags and valuables locked in the team van while you are in the water. Still travel light, and keep phones and wallets you cannot replace off the beach if you would rather not store them.
First-timers are welcome. The private format means the briefing can stay on the basics for as long as you need, and you will not be rushed into deeper water to keep up with a mixed public group.
Your instructor watches how you paddle and stand, then changes the next set of notes. Most people spend the water time in the white water until a clean pop-up feels normal, then look for a slightly steeper wave if the conditions allow.
Yes. The private lesson is also for riders who already stand up and want cleaner wave choice, better paddle timing and tidier board control. After a short look at the conditions, you can spend more of the two hours in the water and less on the sand.
Tell your instructor what you want to fix, whether that is turning, catching unbroken waves or simply getting more rides in a session. The plan follows your goals rather than a fixed beginner script.
Pets are allowed when you can keep them with you at the meeting point. City rules for dogs on Miami Beach sand can change, so check those before you travel if you plan to bring an animal onto the beach itself.
Parking is at 3 Washington Avenue. Arrive a little early on busy weekends, as this lot serves South Pointe Beach and fills when the weather is good.
This booking uses a flexible cancellation window, so you can cancel the day before and receive a refund in line with the terms shown at checkout. The booking system holds the live cut-off, not this page.
If you need a different time, write as soon as you know. Moving a private slot depends on instructor time and the forecast, so earlier notice gives you more chance of another two-hour window.
