Leave the city behind and explore the mountains surrounding Donostia - San Sebastián on a guided mountain bike adventure through forest trails and coastal terrain. Scenic climbs, flowing descents, and quiet tracks make this experience ideal for active riders looking to see a different side of the Basque Country.
The tour begins close to La Concha beach, where the team will prepare your equipment and introduce the route before heading out through the city. After a short section using bike lanes, the ride gradually moves away from the urban centre and climbs towards Mount Ulia, one of the green mountain areas overlooking the coastline near San Sebastián.
Once on the trails, riders will follow a mixture of forest tracks, coastal paths, and mountain routes chosen according to the ability and confidence level of the group. Some sections include flowing descents through woodland terrain, while others open up to panoramic coastal views across the Bay of Biscay. Guides adapt the pace and technical difficulty throughout the experience, helping create an enjoyable ride for both recreational mountain bikers and more confident riders.
The route eventually descends towards Pasaia Bay before returning to the city using quieter cycle paths. Along the way, there are opportunities to stop for photos, short breaks, and explanations about the surrounding area. The combination of mountain terrain and sea views creates a varied ride that feels far removed from the city despite remaining close to San Sebastián throughout the tour.
Donostia - San Sebastián offers quick access to mountain terrain directly from the city centre, making it an excellent destination for mountain biking. Within a short ride from the beachfront, cyclists can reach wooded hillsides, coastal tracks, and quiet natural areas with a wide variety of trails suitable for different experience levels.
Mount Ulia and the surrounding coastline provide a mix of forest riding and open sea views, while nearby Pasaia Bay adds another distinctive landscape to the experience. The region’s terrain allows riders to combine climbing, trail riding, and coastal scenery within a relatively short route.
Participants should have a medium level of cycling confidence and feel comfortable riding on uneven terrain, including dirt trails and moderate climbs. Previous mountain biking experience is helpful, although the route can be adapted depending on the group’s overall ability.
Comfortable sporting clothes and suitable footwear are recommended for the ride. Bringing a water bottle is also advised, particularly during warmer weather conditions.
Local guides lead every tour with detailed knowledge of the surrounding mountain trails and coastal routes, helping riders experience areas that many visitors would never find independently. Routes are selected carefully according to the group’s riding level, allowing the experience to remain enjoyable while still offering exciting terrain and rewarding scenery.
Small groups help maintain a more personal atmosphere throughout the ride and allow guides to provide better support during climbs, descents, and technical sections. Riders also benefit from a selection of quality mountain bikes suitable for different riding styles and experience levels.
Group sizes are kept between 2 and 8 people to ensure a more personal experience and allow guides to adapt the ride to the group’s pace and ability level. Smaller groups also make it easier to move through both city routes and countryside trails comfortably.
If your group has more than 8 people, please use the “Can’t find a date or have a large group?” button above the booking form to send an enquiry. Larger private groups can often be arranged depending on guide availability and the type of ride you are looking for.
A medium level of cycling confidence is recommended, especially as the route includes forest trails, climbs, and uneven terrain throughout the ride.
Guides adapt sections depending on the group’s ability, helping less experienced riders feel comfortable while still keeping the experience enjoyable for stronger cyclists.
The route combines forest tracks, mountain paths, coastal trails, and quieter bike lanes linking different sections together.
Some parts are smoother and flowing, while others include more technical terrain depending on the chosen route and rider ability.
Yes, electric mountain bike options are available for riders wanting extra assistance on climbs and longer trail sections.
These are particularly useful for mixed ability groups or riders wanting to focus more on enjoying the scenery and trails.
The experience is designed for recreational riders with some cycling confidence rather than highly advanced downhill or enduro riders.
Guides choose suitable trails for the group and can avoid more difficult technical sections if needed.
Comfortable sporting clothes, suitable footwear, and a water bottle are recommended for the ride.
Weather can change throughout the day in the mountains, so lightweight layers are often useful as well.
