Glide across a calm lake on a stand up paddleboard while the midnight sun stays visible late into the evening. Time on the water is combined with simple instruction, making it a relaxed way to try something new in a quiet Arctic setting.
An evening session begins at the lakeside, where your guide introduces the basics of stand up paddleboarding. You’ll learn how to balance, hold the paddle, and move across the water before heading out. Most people find they can get comfortable on the board fairly quickly, especially in the calm conditions of the lake.
Once you’re moving, the group follows a gentle route along the shoreline, with time to pause and take in the surroundings. Light reflects off the water as the sun stays above the horizon, creating long, bright evenings that feel different from typical daytime activities. You can paddle at your own pace, either standing or kneeling depending on what feels more comfortable.
As the session continues, there’s space to stop, rest on the board, and look out across the lake while the guide keeps the group together. The experience finishes back at the starting point, with time to step off the water and take in the view before heading back.
The activity takes place on a lake close to Rovaniemi, chosen for its calm surface and easy access. These lakes are surrounded by forest and open shoreline, providing a quiet setting away from busier areas.
Rovaniemi sits within the Arctic Circle, where summer evenings stretch late into the night. Conditions on the lake are usually stable, making it a suitable place for paddleboarding.
Children must be at least 4 years old and accompanied by an adult. All participants should feel comfortable being on the water and able to follow basic balance instructions.
No prior experience is required. A minimum number of participants is needed for the session to run, and conditions must be suitable for safe paddling.
Small group sessions allow more time for individual guidance, especially when getting used to balancing on the board. Routes are kept simple and within calm areas, helping create a steady and manageable experience for beginners.
A low-impact approach is followed, with care taken to operate in a way that respects the surrounding environment. The focus remains on keeping the activity straightforward while making the most of the natural setting.
