Join our annual weekend away diving the freshwater lagoons of Ruidera, a natural park of connected lakes, waterfalls and clear water that feels worlds away from the Mediterranean coast.
Friday brings arrival at the Lagunas de Ruidera, a group briefing, kit check and your first lagoon dives to adjust to freshwater buoyancy and visibility. Evening time is free to settle in, explore the lakeside paths and meet the rest of the group over dinner at a local restaurant.
Saturday is a full day of diving across the best lagoon sites with surface intervals on shore and time to walk the park between dives. Sunday morning wraps up with kit rinse and a relaxed breakfast before the group heads home, with plenty of new logbook entries from a weekend that feels very different from coastal diving.
Lagunas de Ruidera sits in Castilla-La Mancha between Albacete and Ciudad Real, roughly two hours inland from the Murcia coast. The park is protected as a natural area, with walking routes, viewpoints and restaurants around the lakes as well as the dive sites themselves.
Freshwater diving here means different visibility and buoyancy to coastal Mediterranean dives, with limestone formations and aquatic life suited to lagoon conditions. It is an excellent trip for divers who want variety in their logbook without travelling abroad.
You should hold at least an Open Water Diver certification and be comfortable diving in freshwater conditions, which differ slightly from the sea in buoyancy and visibility. Recent diving experience is recommended so you can enjoy the weekend from the first lagoon descent.
Bring your certification card, logbook and any personal kit you prefer, with exposure protection suited to cooler freshwater temperatures in October.
We run this trip every year for our regular divers, so the logistics are well rehearsed and the atmosphere is welcoming for both returning faces and first-time participants. Patient instruction and small groups are central to how we dive, whether at Cabo de Palos or on a trip like this.
The weekend blends serious diving with a sociable group atmosphere, from shared meals to surface intervals on shore. You travel with people who share your passion for the water and leave with new friends as well as new dive sites in your logbook.
