Created specifically for children, these surf lessons focus on building confidence in the ocean while teaching the foundations of surfing in a supportive and enjoyable environment. Sessions are led by experienced instructors who adapt the lesson to suit younger participants, helping kids learn safely while spending plenty of time in the water.
The lesson begins near My Khe Beach, where children meet the instructor, get fitted with their surf equipment, and prepare for the session. Depending on weather and sea conditions, rash vests or wetsuits are provided before the group heads down towards the beach. A short warm-up helps younger surfers get comfortable and ready for the activity ahead.
Before entering the water, instructors explain the basics of surfing in a simple and approachable way suitable for children. The beach session covers how to position themselves on the board, paddle correctly, maintain balance, and perform the pop-up technique used to stand up while riding a wave. Safety in the ocean is explained throughout, helping younger participants feel more confident before heading into the sea.
Most of the lesson takes place in shallow beginner-friendly surf conditions where children practise catching waves with direct support from the instructors. Coaching is adapted to each child’s confidence and ability level, creating a positive learning environment while helping them improve steadily throughout the session. After surfing, there is time to shower and change before the activity finishes.
Held at My Khe Beach in Sơn Trà, these lessons take place on one of Da Nang’s best beaches for beginner surfing. The sandy shoreline and open beach conditions create a comfortable environment for younger surfers learning close to shore with plenty of space around them.
Away from the water, the surrounding coastline offers cafés, beach areas, and scenic views across Da Nang and the nearby Sơn Trà Peninsula. The area combines a lively beach atmosphere with quieter coastal scenery nearby, making it a pleasant setting for families spending time by the sea.
No previous surfing experience is needed for children joining the lesson. The sessions are designed specifically for beginners, with instructors guiding participants step by step throughout the activity to help them feel comfortable in the water.
Children should feel reasonably confident around the sea and capable of taking part in light physical activity during the lesson. Younger children under 8 may benefit more from private one-to-one instruction depending on confidence and experience.
Lessons are kept to small groups so instructors can provide more individual support and attention while maintaining a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for younger surfers. The focus remains on helping children feel comfortable in the water while learning at their own pace.
Experienced instructors use beginner-friendly equipment and supportive coaching methods to make surfing approachable for children trying the sport for the first time. Sessions are designed to balance learning, safety, and enjoyment throughout the experience.
