Leave Nagoya behind for a full day in the Japanese Alps. A scenic drive through Gifu Prefecture leads to seasonal flower fields and a mountain farm, then on to Kamikochi for an easy guided walk to the famous Kappa-bashi bridge with time to explore at your own pace.
Meet your English-speaking guide at Nagoya Station before boarding a private coach towards the Hirugano Plateau. The first stop is a flower park and pastoral farm over 1,000 metres above sea level, where you can wander among seasonal blooms, meet farm animals, sample local treats or simply enjoy the mountain views.
Continue through the Japanese Alps into Chubu Sangaku National Park and the protected Kamikochi valley. Your guide leads a relaxed 1.5-hour walk along mostly flat, wooden boardwalk trails to Kappa-bashi, pointing out local plants and wildlife along the way. Free time at the bridge lets you grab food, browse souvenirs or keep exploring before the return coach to Nagoya.
Kamikochi sits in Japan's highest mountain range within a carefully preserved national park. Private cars are not permitted, which has helped protect its clear rivers, alpine ponds and dramatic peaks.
The Hirugano Plateau adds a gentler highland contrast before the main valley walk. Together they give a varied picture of central Japan's mountain country within easy reach of Nagoya.
This is an easy, accessible hike suited to most active visitors. The trail is largely flat with wooden walkways, so no specialist hiking experience is required.
Comfortable walking shoes, weather-appropriate layers and a small daypack with water and snacks are recommended. Bring cash or a card for optional food and purchases during free time at Kappa-bashi.
A guided day removes the complexity of reaching Kamikochi from Nagoya. Transport, timing and the valley walk are handled for you, leaving space to enjoy the scenery and learn from a local guide.
The flower park stop breaks up the journey and adds variety beyond the hike itself. Small-group pacing keeps the day sociable without feeling rushed.
Meet inside Nagoya Station at 08:00 in front of the Silver Clock near the Shinkansen gates (Taiko-dori exit side). Your guide will greet the group there before departure.
Please arrive a few minutes early to locate the meeting point. The tour returns to Nagoya Station around 19:30, though traffic may affect the exact arrival time.
