Slip into a thermal floating suit and relax on the surface of a frozen Arctic lake while watching the night sky above. This calm evening experience offers a different way to view the Northern Lights, combining quiet surroundings with a guided outdoor setting.
Evening begins with pick-up and transfer to a forest lake away from the city, where conditions are better for viewing the night sky. On arrival, your guide will provide instructions and help you into a specially designed floating suit that keeps you warm and dry in icy water.
Once ready, you’ll enter the lake and gently float on the surface, supported by the insulated suit. Movement is minimal, allowing you to fully relax while looking up at the sky. The quiet setting, combined with the stillness of the water, creates a unique way to experience the Arctic night.
After time spent floating, you’ll head back to shore to warm up with hot drinks and snacks. If conditions are right, the Northern Lights may appear overhead during the experience. The session finishes with a return transfer to Rovaniemi.
The activity takes place on a forest lake outside Rovaniemi, selected for its peaceful surroundings and limited light pollution. These remote spots provide clear views of the sky and a natural setting away from built-up areas.
Located within the Arctic Circle, Rovaniemi offers long winter nights and cold temperatures that support frozen lake conditions, making it suitable for this type of experience.
A minimum age of 4 applies, and participants must be at least 130 cm tall to properly fit into the floating suit. Children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the activity.
No previous experience is required. Participants should be comfortable entering cold water environments while wearing a protective suit.
Group sizes are kept manageable to allow a calm and organised experience, with guides providing support throughout. Locations are chosen based on conditions to improve the chances of clear skies and a peaceful setting.
The activity is designed to have minimal impact on the environment, using reusable equipment and carefully selected access points to protect the natural surroundings.
The floating suit is designed to keep you dry and insulated while in cold water. It traps air and provides buoyancy, allowing you to float comfortably on the surface.
The suit also helps maintain body temperature, making it possible to stay in icy conditions for a controlled period of time.
No swimming is required, as the suit keeps you afloat at all times.
Participants simply lie back and relax on the water, with minimal movement needed.
Yes, the activity is supervised by experienced guides and uses specialised equipment designed for Arctic conditions.
The suits are built to protect against cold exposure, and time in the water is managed carefully.
Aurora sightings depend on weather conditions and solar activity, so they cannot be guaranteed.
The location is chosen to maximise visibility when conditions are favourable.
Lake conditions depend on temperature, and if ice has not formed safely, the activity may be adjusted.
Alternative arrangements are made to ensure the experience can still go ahead safely.
Warm base layers are recommended, including thermal clothing.
Avoid bulky items, as the suit itself provides insulation and works best with fitted layers underneath.
Yes, children aged 4 and above can join if they meet the height requirement and are accompanied by an adult.
Parents should ensure children are comfortable with the idea of floating in water.
