Borrow a horse by the hour and ride out from the yard into Moncayo country at a pace that suits you, with staff who know which mount fits a nervous adult, a keen teenager, or a child on a lead rein. Stay close for a gentle potter or book more time to reach longer loops when an escort rides with you on the trail.
First comes the practical stuff: how long you are hiring, whether you are staying in the safe yard zone or heading onto paths, and what experience everyone in your party has. Staff tack up a horse that matches height and confidence, run a short safety chat, and get you mounted without any awkward rush. Kids on steady ponies and adults on trail horses all get the same calm start.
On the trail, your escort sets a pace everyone can keep, weaving through poplar shade, open fields, and the lower Moncayo footslopes while keeping an eye on hooves and weather. Extra hours mean more scenery, not more stress, and you are back at the yard with time to stretch legs and swap stories before the horses are untacked.
The hire base is on Camino Millarada at the foot of Moncayo, where valley tracks turn into pine climbs within minutes of leaving the yard. That mix is why an hour here still feels like a proper ride rather than endless circles in a school, and you see a different slice of countryside every time you add another hour.
Tarazona, the natural park, and viewpoints such as the Montes de Cierzo are all within reach when you book longer saddle time and the ground is in good shape. Most visitors drive in from the comarca or Zaragoza for the day, park on site, and build the rest of the trip around lunch or a walk once the horses are untacked.
Complete beginners are fine for the shortest, calmest hires, especially near the yard where staff stay close. You need to sit upright for the time you booked, listen to instructions on the ground, and mention at check-in if anyone is nervous or returning after a long break from riding.
Confident riders can ask for a forward horse and a hillier line when escort cover and ground conditions allow on your date. Routes adjust on the day so nobody bites off more trail than they enjoy.
Horses are picked for temperament first, and escorts hold equestrian tourism qualifications when you ride off-site, so nobody is sent out on a path they have not checked that week. Tack is adjusted for your session rather than grabbed at random from a rack.
We have shaped hire days around visitors to Moncayo since the late 1990s, with briefings that are clear rather than preachy and welfare rules that are strict because we want the same animals working happily season after season. That steady approach is why families trust us with children and returning riders book longer hires when they come back.
You pay per horse per hour and can select one to four hours for your session. The total reflects the duration you choose.
Each rider normally takes one horse. Very young children may start on a lead rein in the yard when staff agree the format suits that day.
Yes for the calmest yard-based hires and short nearby paths. Staff match you to a steady mount and keep the pace gentle.
Height, weight and any health considerations are noted at check-in so tack and horse choice are right before you mount.
Most children ride their own pony or small horse on family hires once staff assess size and confidence. Very small children may start on a lead rein within the yard.
Parents remain responsible for supervision at the yard and should stay within sight when youngsters are mounted.
Leaving the immediate yard on public trails requires a qualified escort riding with you. The route and experience level decide whether your hire stays in the yard or heads onto paths.
Short, supervised yard sessions suit riders who want a calm introduction without trail time, with staff staying close while you practise in a safe zone.
One hour stays close to Novallas, while two to four hours can cover more of the Moncayo foothills, poplar plains and linked valley paths.
Exact loops depend on season, ground conditions and horse fitness, and your escort may adjust the route on the day to stay safe.
Wear trousers and closed shoes you can walk in. Riding boots are ideal but sturdy trainers work on gentle routes.
Bring sun protection in summer and a thin layer in spring or autumn when evenings cool quickly in the hills.
Riding needs firm, visible conditions. Storms, high wind or waterlogged paths mean rescheduling for rider and horse safety.
Check the local forecast before you travel, especially when rain or ice might affect roads around Novallas.
Helmets may be available at the yard, though many riders bring a fitted hat they already use.
Saddlery is included with the hire; personal insurance for travel and riding remains your responsibility.
Yes. Hire runs from a single rider because you are renting the mount for your chosen time, without needing to fill a minimum group size.
Trail routes still include escort cover arranged for your session so you are not expected to find another rider first.
Popular horses and escort slots go quickly at weekends, so booking a few days ahead helps secure your preferred window.
Longer hires are easier to plan when the yard knows your experience level and how many riders are in your party.

About the centre
Novallas
Since 1998 we have welcomed riders and visitors to the foothills of Moncayo in northern Spain, sharing trail rides, lessons and multi-day treks through woodland, river valleys and high mountain paths. Our team brings decades of equestrian teaching, guided tourism and competition experience, with natural horsemanship and animal welfare at the heart of how we work.
Whether you are trying riding for the first time, hiring a horse for an hour near the yard or joining a guided route across Aragón, you will find a family-run setting where safety, calm horses and personal attention matter. We design each outing around your level and the landscape you want to explore, from gentle introductory rides to demanding raid-style journeys with full on-trail support.
