Three to six of you share a private ice track outside Rovaniemi, taking the wheel after a short safety lesson and a kit-up with helmet and balaclava. The instructor covers how the car behaves on frozen snow, then you build from calm practice laps into a full hour on the circuit, or a longer two hour session if you want more time. Pickup in Rovaniemi is included.
Helmets and balaclavas come first, along with a walk around the car and a review of how it works on ice. The instructor covers braking, cornering, traction and how you talk to each other, then the first laps stay calm: straight line braking, turning in, feeding the throttle, and catching a basic slide. Feedback comes from the passenger seat or over the radio, and the aim is a soft, early style that works better on ice than a heavy right foot.
Once those laps feel natural you build the pace across the rest of your track time. The one hour session includes this practice inside the hour. On the two hour option you stay out longer, which gives you room to repeat corners and settle into the slide. When you know the circuit you can also take some laps on your own, still on the private ice and still with the team on hand at the side of the track.
A private circuit on frozen lake ice in the countryside around Rovaniemi is the workplace, well away from public roads and town traffic. You reach it with us from the city, so you do not need to find the track yourself.
We collect you in Rovaniemi. Share your hotel or cabin address so we can plan the run out. A return drop-off is not part of this outing, and we will confirm how you get back into town when we set the meeting time.
No previous rally or ice driving experience is required. We treat this as a first session and keep the early laps at a pace the group can follow. The outing is set up for three to six people sharing the same ice.
You should be comfortable taking the wheel and spending a few hours outdoors in Finnish winter weather. Bring your own warm layers, hat and winter boots. We supply the helmet and balaclava that you wear in the car.
The same family has welcomed visitors in this part of Lapland since 1979, now in a third generation, with Finnish guides who know the ice. The session stays with your group of three to six on a private circuit rather than a shared public lake.
You drive on private land about thirty minutes from Rovaniemi, across more than 500 hectares of forest and lake. Choose a one hour track session or the two hour option when you want more time behind the wheel together.
Pickup in Rovaniemi starts the run out to the private ice track. On arrival we fit your helmet and balaclava, then walk around the car so the seats and the controls make sense before anyone turns a wheel. Your instructor covers braking, cornering, traction and how we talk to each other. The group of three to six stays together for this first block.
You start with quiet laps so you can feel the car settle. We practise braking in a straight line, turning in and out of a curve, feeding the throttle, and catching a basic slide before the pace comes up. Your instructor gives feedback from the passenger seat or over the radio, and we keep this block slow on purpose. The aim is a soft, early style that works better on ice than a heavy right foot.
When the first laps feel natural, you build the pace across the rest of your track time. The one hour session includes this practice inside the hour. On the two hour option you stay out longer, which gives you more room to repeat corners. Once you know the circuit you can also take some laps on your own, still on the private ice and still with us on hand at the side of the track.
You do not need any rally background to take the wheel. We start beside the track with a calm briefing, fit your helmet and balaclava, and walk through how the car behaves on ice before you leave the start. Your instructor stays with the group, first from the passenger seat or by radio.
Once those first laps feel natural, we build the pace together. The aim is a soft, early style of driving rather than a heavy right foot, and you will have time to practise braking, turning in, and catching a slide before you push on.
This is a driving session rather than a long hike, so you do not need a high level of fitness. You should be comfortable sitting in a rally seat, turning the wheel for an hour or more, and spending time outdoors between laps in Finnish winter weather.
If you get cold easily, dress in warm layers you can add or remove, and wear proper winter boots for the walk from the van to the car. We can pause between stints so you can warm your hands and take a breath before the next run.
This outing is set up for a group of three to six people sharing the same ice. Tell us who is coming so we can say whether the hours and the cars will suit everyone who wants to drive.
Everyone who joins should be able to take the wheel and follow simple safety instructions from the instructor. Bring extra layers, as standing beside the track between stints will cool you faster than sitting in the car.
Wear warm layers you already own, a hat that fits under a helmet, and winter boots with a decent sole. We give you a helmet and a balaclava for the time you are in the car, so you do not need to pack motorsport kit of your own.
Leave jewellery and loose scarves in your bag, and bring sunglasses or clear glasses if you wear them for driving. A small dry bag for your phone is useful. Have your hotel or cabin address ready so we can plan pickup.
The one hour track session usually fills about three hours door to door, including pickup, the safety lesson, and time on the ice. That hour includes your practice laps, so you are not spending the whole time at full pace from the first corner.
If you want more time behind the wheel, choose the two hour track option. That one gives you a longer outing of about four hours in all, with more room to repeat corners and settle into the slide.
The session needs a sound ice surface, so we watch the temperature and the state of the track before we set out. Soft ice, heavy snowfall or a sudden thaw can mean we have to move your time or stop the day for safety.
If we cannot run, we will be in touch as early as we can with the next step. Please treat this as a winter activity that depends on the lake staying hard enough for cars, not as an indoor session that runs in any weather.
Most guests feel a little tight in the shoulders on the first lap, and that is normal. We start with straight line braking and slow corners so you can feel how the car settles, and your instructor can talk you through each input from the passenger seat or over the radio.
You are not expected to drive at a competition pace. The goal is control and a bit of slide you chose, not a scare. Tell us if you want to stay slower for longer, and we will keep the session at that pace until you are ready to add speed.
Pickup in Rovaniemi is included. Share your hotel or cabin address so we can plan the run out to the track. We will send you a time once that address is with us, and please be ready a few minutes before we arrive.
This outing does not include a return drop-off. We will confirm how you get back into town when we set the meeting time, so you are not left guessing beside the ice. Stays far from the city may need you to make your own way in first.
Once you have learned the circuit with your instructor, you can drive some laps on your own. That comes after the coached practice, not at the very start, so you already know the braking points and how the car talks to you on the ice.
The team stays on hand at the side of the track. The one hour session and the two hour option both include this progression when you are ready, rather than sending you out alone from the first corner.
The first block is about grip and slip: how to brake in a straight line, how to turn in and out of a curve, and how to catch a basic slide. The instructor also talks through the car and how traction works on a frozen surface.
The goal is a soft, early style that is faster on ice than a hard throttle. You leave with a clearer sense of how a car moves on snow, and a bit more confidence for winter driving, whether or not you ever sit in a rally seat again.
