Spend a full day on foot deep inside Wadi Rum, moving from red sand valleys into narrow canyons and up to viewpoints for sunset over the Rum basin. A local Bedouin guide shares stories at inscription sites and rock bridges while a cooked lunch rests the group at midday.
Morning tea and briefing precede a slow trek through sculpted canyons and open plains. Midday lunch is prepared in the desert before afternoon crossings of sandstone ridges toward a high sunset perch. You return to the meeting area before nightfall.
The guide narrates Nabataean history and Bedouin routes at key pauses. Regular water and rest stops keep the eight-hour day manageable for fit walkers.
Wadi Rum Protected Area combines UNESCO-listed desert scenery with living Bedouin culture. Foot routes reach quiet narrows and bridges that jeep loops skim past, giving walkers intimate contact with rock art and colour shifts in the stone.
The meeting point inside the reserve links easily to overnight camps and shorter driving tours on other days of your Jordan trip.
Comfort with eight hours of walking on uneven ground is recommended. No climbing grades are required on the standard guided line. Bring sun protection and adequate water.
Tell your guide about knee or ankle concerns at the briefing. A light day pack with snacks and two litres of water is sensible in warm months.
Guides who grew up in the reserve choose shaded lunch spots and safe canyon lines seasonally. Trek equipment is included, and luggage storage at the start simplifies travel days.
This itinerary links canyon narrows, rock bridges, and a sunset ridge finish in one continuous walking day without returning to roads until dark.

Arrive ready to walk at the scheduled start. Late arrival shortens time on trail.
Sturdy walking shoes, sun cream, hat, and sunglasses are essential. Long sleeves help against sun and occasional brush along canyon walls.
Carry at least two litres of water in hot months. A light day pack holds snacks and camera gear.
Equipment needed for the guided walk is provided as per centre policy. Personal boots, sun protection, and water remain your responsibility.
The guide confirms any shared kit at the morning briefing.
The protected area entrance fee is paid separately unless your selected rate already includes it. Keep any ticket issued because rangers may check inside the reserve.
Ask on arrival if you are unsure whether your rate covers the fee.
Guides may shorten the afternoon leg if heat or wind creates risk. Most light weather does not stop the trek.
Official warnings trigger contact to discuss rescheduling or a shortened route.
No minimum age is stated but the full day on foot suits older children and adults with walking fitness. Young toddlers are unlikely to manage the distance.
Contact the team in advance with young guests to discuss realistic pacing.
Spring and autumn offer the most comfortable temperatures for an eight-hour desert walk. Winter can be pleasant with cool mornings, while summer requires extra hydration and sun protection.
Your guide adjusts pace and rest stops based on seasonal heat. Sunset timing on the ridge is built into the afternoon schedule.
