Evening snowshoe walking near Levi is private, lasting about three hours from fitting the shoes to walking home. Dark trails include a stop for warm drinks and cinnamon buns, at a pace set for your group. Snowshoes and clothing for the outing are provided, and we start from your accommodation.
Fitting happens at your accommodation, with a short demonstration of how to walk in the shoes, then winter kit goes over your own base layer. Once everyone is steady, you head onto a forest path or a more open fell line, depending on the snow and the pace you asked for. If you would like a gentler loop or a slightly longer one, tell us before the shoes go on.
Midway you stop for warm drinks and cinnamon buns on the trail, eaten outside rather than in a cafe. After that you walk back and finish at the same door where the shoes went on. Private from one guest, the stop and the route sit with your group rather than a public departure.
Open snow and birch around Levi and Sirkka are close enough that a three-hour evening still keeps you near the village. Last streetlamps fall behind as you walk onto quieter track among birch, with the resort falling away after the first stretch. Dark is part of the setting, with headtorches and village glow left behind once the trail starts.
Around the resort the forest is close enough that the shoes can go on at your door, in Finnish Lapland rather than at a distant trailhead. Headtorch hunts for a trail car park are not part of the evening, and neither is sitting in a van. Birch forest and a quieter snow line just beyond the village are the ground this walk uses.
Walking on snow for the evening should feel comfortable, and earlier snowshoe time is not required because the fitting includes a short explanation. Four is the minimum age, and children walk with an adult. Shoes feel odd for a few minutes, then the step usually settles once you are moving.
Wool or synthetic base layers belong under the kit, with shoes the bindings can strap to rather than smooth-soled fashion boots. Share bun allergies when you book, and say if you want the gentlest forest loop. Bring a working mobile so we can time collection in the dark.
Pace and the bun stop are set for your group rather than a mixed public line, because the walk is private. Snowshoes, winter clothing, drinks and buns are included, which means you pack a base layer and sensible shoes rather than hiring kit separately. Guides stay with you from the fitting at the door to the walk home.
Starting at your stay keeps the three hours on snow instead of in a transfer. The same person who puts the shoes on is the person who leads the loop and brings you back. Gentler forest lines or a slightly longer one can be asked for before you set off, which is easier on a private evening than on a fixed group walk.
We collect you at the accommodation and fit the snowshoes there, with a few minutes on how to step and turn before you are committed to the evening trail.
Forest or open fell, depending on the pace you asked for and the snow underfoot. The guide stays with the group, and the line can shorten if the going is heavier than it looked from the village.
Warm drinks and cinnamon buns are the stop on the trail, then the walk back through the same winter dark. You finish at the same Levi address, not at a trailhead you then have to leave on your own.
The walk itself, plus fitting the snowshoes and the bun stop, fills about 3 hours. It is an evening, so you are out while the winter dark is already down, not squeezing a loop in before sunset.
Collection is from the accommodation, which means the 3 hours include getting the shoes on at the start rather than a separate meeting in the village.
Snowshoes and the winter clothing for the outing are issued. Your job is a warm base layer and shoes you can actually walk in before that kit goes over the top.
Cotton cools you the moment you stop for the buns. Wool or synthetic is the better layer. If a knee, a hip, or balance on uneven snow is a limit, that belongs in the booking so the trail is chosen for it.
The shoes are shown to you before you leave, including how the binding sits and how to turn without stepping on your own frame. You do not need a previous snowshoe day.
Say if you want the steadier line or a slightly longer one. The guide can do either. Guessing on the trail, in the dark, is the worse option.
It is private and can start from one guest. There is no published cap, so the guest count on your booking is what we plan shoes and buns for. Do not assume a seventh person can be added at the door.
Children from 4 come with an adult. Ages help the guide judge whether the fell section is a good idea or whether the forest loop is the whole evening.
Warm drinks and cinnamon buns are the stop. They are baked to eat outside, not a dinner service. Allergies and anything you do not eat need to be on the booking, because the buns are made ahead.
If you need a full meal, have it before you are collected. Three hours on snowshoes with only a bun is a light evening, not a supper.
Notice of 72 hours or more returns the fee. Inside that, or if you are not ready when we arrive for an evening slot, the guide and the shoes held for your group are non-refundable.
Evening slots are the ones on the calendar. Have the phone with you. Collection times move if the previous walk runs long in deep snow.
A photographer is an extra, and night walks are exactly when people wish they had booked one, because gloves and a headtorch make phone photos clumsy.
You can still shoot when the guide pauses and the group is stopped. Walking and framing at the same time is how snowshoes get tangled.
Snowshoes spread your weight so soft snow holds you. The first minutes feel wide and slow, then the step settles. The guide stays with the group the whole way, including if the loop has to shorten.
Ice changes the plan. A reroute or a shorter line is normal. You will not be pointed at a dark trail and left to find the accommodation yourself.
Yes, that is the slot. Winter evenings around Levi are dark, and the guide sorts light for the trail when it is needed. You are walking by that light, not searching for a sunset viewpoint.
The focus is snowshoeing in the winter dark, with warm drinks and buns on the trail rather than chasing the aurora from a motor.
We'll need names, children's ages, the Levi address, a mobile, bun allergies, and any limit that changes the distance you can walk. A shorter loop is a reasonable request. It needs to be made before the shoes are chosen.
Also say if anyone has not walked on snowshoes before, so the briefing is not rushed at the door in the cold.
