Share a double buggy with your partner or friend on an off-road loop from the Bávaro area through dusty Macao trails, a traditional ranch visit and a turquoise cenote swim. Guides lead the convoy so you can focus on the ride, the scenery and the three highlight stops along the way.
After pickup in Bávaro, you meet the buggy fleet and get a safety briefing before setting off through the Macao area on off-road tracks that can be dusty and muddy depending on recent rain. The pace is guided so mixed experience levels can enjoy the ride.
The route includes a stop at a typical local house or ranch to see how organic cocoa, coffee and cigars are prepared in the region, followed by time at the Taino cave cenote for photos and a swim in clear water when conditions allow. The team wraps up back at the ranch area before your return transfer.
The adventure runs inland from the Bávaro resort strip toward Macao Beach and surrounding countryside, mixing coastal dunes, village tracks and shaded ranch land. The cenote sits in a popular natural pool setting that draws visitors from across the island.
Because the route crosses open terrain and village areas, you see a different side of the east coast than the hotel pool views, from red dirt tracks to turquoise water in the cave pool.
No off-road driving experience is required. The lead guide sets the convoy speed and line. Drivers must hold a valid licence where required and follow briefing rules on spacing, dust and water crossings.
This is an active, outdoor day with sun, dust and possible mud. It is not recommended for pregnant guests or anyone with serious back or neck issues. Bring swimwear if you plan to enter the cenote.
The tour packs three contrasting stops into one morning or afternoon: adrenaline on the buggy tracks, culture at the ranch tasting stop and a refreshing swim at the cenote. Double buggies let couples and friends share the driving and the views.
Guides stay with the group throughout, allocate buggies to your party size at booking and help manage timing at busy cenote periods so you still get the key moments of the route.
Collect your party from the Bávaro hotel zone and travel to the buggy base for registration, helmet fitting and a safety briefing. Guides explain convoy rules before you set off toward the Macao trails.
Follow the lead guide on off-road tracks through the Macao area, mixing dusty paths and open views toward the coast. The double buggy lets you share driving duties and enjoy the adrenaline together.
Stop at a typical house or ranch to see how cocoa, coffee and cigars are prepared in the region and to taste organic products from the area. Guides explain what you are sampling and how it is grown.
Reach the Taino cave cenote, a turquoise pool popular with visitors from across the country. When conditions allow, take time to swim and photos before the group moves on.
Finish at the ranch area where optional tour photos may be offered, then rejoin your transfer back to the Bávaro hotel zone with dust, stories and photos from the day.
Pickup is from hotels and agreed points in the Bávaro resort area at the time confirmed after booking. Wear clothes you are happy to get dusty and closed-toe shoes suitable for driving.
Guests staying closer to Punta Cana should book the Punta Cana departure version of this route so pickup matches your hotel zone.
This departure is designed for guests staying in the Bávaro hotel corridor with pickup in that zone. If your hotel is in Punta Cana, choose the separate Punta Cana pickup product so transfer times stay sensible.
Both versions visit Macao, the ranch stop and the cenote, but the collection point differs. The Bávaro pickup window is timed around resort traffic so you are not waiting long in the lobby. Share your hotel name when you book so the driver can confirm the right collection point the day before travel.
Yes, guests drive the buggies in a guided convoy after the safety briefing. One person steers while the other enjoys the ride on the double machine, and you can swap if you both hold valid licences and the guide agrees.
The lead guide sets speed, spacing and the route so you are never navigating alone. The convoy stays together through dusty sections and water crossings, with radio contact between guides when needed. If you prefer to ride passenger only, you can enjoy the trail views while your partner handles the steering.
Options typically include single, double and larger family buggies depending on availability on the day. Choose the configuration that matches your group when you book so the fleet can be allocated.
Larger family buggies can often carry children alongside adults when booked in advance. If your group spans multiple vehicles, the team still keeps the same convoy order so nobody is left behind on the route.
Yes, there is time built in to enjoy the Taino cave cenote and swim in the clear water when conditions and crowd levels allow. Bring swimwear and a towel.
On very busy days the pool can feel crowded; guides do their best to find a comfortable moment for your group. Listen for their signal before entering so everyone moves through the cave area safely together.
You visit a typical local house or ranch to see how cocoa, coffee and cigars are produced in the area and to sample organic products grown nearby. It is a cultural pause between the dusty trail riding and the cenote.
The tasting stop is a chance to see traditional drying and grinding steps as well as finished cigars and drinks. Allow a little time to look around the homestead before the group heads toward the cenote.
Trails around Macao can be dusty or muddy depending on recent rain. That is part of the fun for many guests, so wear clothes you do not mind getting dirty and bring a change for afterward.
Bring a bandana or dust mask if you are sensitive to red dirt on open tracks, especially in the dry season. A light change of clothes in your bag makes the hotel drop-off more comfortable after muddy sections.
The team may take photos during the tour that you can review and buy afterward. These packages are optional and are not included in the standard activity price.
You are welcome to bring your own camera or phone, keeping it secure on bumpy sections. Optional photo packages are usually reviewed at the ranch stop once the riding is finished.
Popular stops such as the beach and cenote can have local vendors offering souvenirs or snacks. Buying is entirely optional; a polite decline is fine if you are not interested.
Vendors are common at busy stops and may approach politely; a simple no thanks is enough if you are not buying. Keep valuables secured when walking away from the buggy at each pause.
Food is not usually included on this half-day buggy loop unless your confirmation states otherwise. The ranch stop focuses on tastings rather than a full meal.
Many guests treat this as a morning adventure and eat afterward back at the resort, while others schedule a late breakfast before pickup. Check your confirmation email for the exact hotel collection time.
Heavy rain can make trails slippery and affect visibility on the convoy. The team may delay start times, shorten certain sections or reschedule for safety.
Light rain may still allow the tour with slower speeds, while storms or flooded trails can mean a later start. The team will suggest the safest option for your party rather than pushing through unsafe track conditions.
