Activity Highlights:

Discover the thrill of flight and step into an adventure of a lifetime! Join us on a paragliding journey to the wild mountains of Corsica, on:

18 to 25 May 2024

Known as “L’ille de Beauté” – the island of beauty, Corsica offers a distinctive blend of wild, rugged landscapes, vibrant culture and idyllic coastal beaches. As part of France, but with its own strong national identity, the Corsican adventure is sure to be unique, exotic and exciting.

With this BHPA-registered Air Experience School, you will be in the hands of experienced professionals like our Chief Instructor, Dave, and the very experienced Michel. While we aim to provide a platform for community learning and safety, it is important to note that our qualifications are for tandem flying rather than teaching newbie solo pilots. You must be an independent pilot to join this trip; this is not a beginner learn to paraglide course.

Your Journey to Corsica

Travel to and from Corsica is not included. However, we offer several travel options to make your journey to Corsica as smooth as possible.

  • We can take your wing by car for free.
  • You can travel with us by car from the UK for £200 return (it’s a two-day journey).
  • If you prefer public transport, we recommend train travel from London to Marseille and then an overnight ferry to Ajaccio.
  • Direct flights are available from London Gatwick to Bastia, followed by a scenic 3-hour train ride towards Ajaccio, alighting at Carbuccia.
  • You could also fly to Ajaccio, with a potential connection in Paris.

We’re happy to assist with booking travel if you wish.

Who Can Join?

This trip is ideally suited for Pilot-rated pilots looking for an adventure in a wild mountain environment, with some more relaxing coastal soaring and some time at the beach. You should be prepared to walk up to an hour with your glider, as landing out may put you some distance from a road. Please consult with us before booking if you’re unsure about this.

Please check that the following sounds like you:

  • Qualified to Pilot level or above
  • Capable of unassisted launching, landing, and making own flying decisions
  • Have your own paragliding equipment in good condition, including wing, harness, and reserve
  • Have your own insurance covering paragliding accidents and any associated search and rescue, medical expenses, and repatriation costs

Flight Locations

We’ll be stationed near the flying site of Vero, with several other attractive locations for different flying experiences, such as Vizzanova for high mountains, and San Bastiano for coastal/mountain flying. Don’t forget your swimwear and towel for a beach landing!

What to Bring

Remember to bring along the following:

  • Radio
  • Your own paragliding equipment in good condition, including wing, harness, and reserve
  • Tree landing kit: loop of climbing webbing, dental floss for pulling up a line, and a whistle
  • Drinking bag for hydration
  • In-flight urination equipment
  • Swimwear, towel, and possibly snorkeling gear

What If the Weather Is Unfavorable?

If the weather is completely unflyable, we have several other activities planned, including beach outings, swimming, paddleboarding in Lake Tollo, gorge walking, mountain biking, visiting prehistoric sites, or traveling into Ajaccio.

How to Book

To secure your spot, you need to put in a booking request using the booking form above.

The trip organiser will be notified of your booking request and you will be able to discuss the trip with them, ask any questions, and they will ask for some basic details including your paragliding qualification level, and your emergency contacts. Once they have confirmed your spot, you will then be taken to payment to confirm the trip.

Risks

Paragliding involves inherent risks, and your safety is our priority. While we’ll discuss options for each day’s flying and decide as a group which site to visit, you’re ultimately responsible for your own decisions. No one is obliged to fly, and it’s essential that each pilot feels confident about the forecast and the flying site before taking off.

Get ready for an unforgettable experience, flying through the breathtaking Corsican landscapes, soaring over its high mountains, and exploring its vast, wild spaces. Book your spot today and prepare to embark on an adventure that will elevate your spirit and ignite your sense of adventure!

Frequently Asked Questions

In France Corsica is known as “L’ille de Beauté” – the island of beauty. It is a stunning, wild, and sparseley populated mountainous island. Although part of France, Corsicans have their own strong national identity and culture. Flying here you will definitely be off the beaten track. The main flying site of Vero has a bar at the landing field, and San Bastiano near the coast has a beautiful beach as one of the landings. But if you go XC north into the higher mountains, you’ll enjoy vast wild spaces – deep forests, epic steep mountain cliffs, valleys with footopaths rather than roads, and the odd mountain refuge being the only sign of humanity. This is an exotic and adventurous destination.

We’ll be staying closest to the site of Vero – with a carpeted launch and a bar by the landing field. For a launchpad that gets us more quickly into the high mountains, we may go up the valley to Vizzanova. For coastal/mountain flying we’ll head down the valley to San Bastiano. There are plenty of other sites we may wish to explore. Ending the day with a swim at the beach will be a highlight – we suggest packing your swimwear and towel each day in the back of your harness.

You will need to book your own transport to and from Corsica. However, we are happy to support you with this and we can even offer you a lift in the car there and back for an additional fee.

This trip is organised by a BHPA registered Air Experience School. The Chief Instructor is Dave, assisted by the very experienced Michel. Please note our instructor qualifications are for tandem flying rather than teaching newbie solo pilots.

We will not be offering guiding or instuction on this trip. Rather, we will be flying as a group of friends – sharing information and making decisions together. We speak French, and so we’ll liaise with local schools and pilots, and share what they tell us. Making decisions together leads to better safety and learning.

We request that XC pilots attempt to make their own way back (or nearer) by hitching or public transport (but not expensive taxis). We find that hitching works very well in the mountains especially with a paraglider-shaped rucksack. At the end of the flying day we will collect anyone who is still not back. Extra points if you can fly to the beach or straight back to the holiday house!

Sorry, no. This trip is for pilot-rated pilots looking for an adventure in a wild mountain environment, mixed with some more relaxing coastal soaring and some time at the beach. You should be prepared to walk up to an hour with your glider – as if you land out you may be some distance from a road. Please talk to us before booking if you’re not sure if you’re ready for this trip.

  • Breakfast: Tea, coffee, granola, cornflakes, fruit, yoghurt, pancakes, maple syrup, and (if we’re not having an early start) english breakfast or croissants.
  • Lunch: we provide fresh bread, sandwich fillings, and fruit for you to assemble your own packed lunches.
  • Dinner: simple home-cooked food such as roast chicken with mash and greens, mushroom risotto, pasta carbonara, steak and chips, etc. Local cheese and wild boar saucisson.

We’ll be staying at a holiday home close to Vero, one of the main flying sites. You may need to share a room. There will be a gardens and a swimming pool available.

In a strong east wind, we may need to drive for a couple of hours to the other side of the mountain.

If the weather is completely unflyable we can go to the beach, or swim and paddleboard in Lake Tollo, go gorge walking, mountain biking, via ferrata, visit some prehistoric sites, or take the train into Ajaccio.
