Join us on a paragliding journey to this wonderful paragliding playground
Join us for a mountain flying trip to the Massif Central, flying over extinct volcanoes and 1800m mountains in central France. If the weather forecast is bad in the Massif Central, we may change the destination to another mountain range, with a final decision on the Thursday before departure.
The price includes: accommodation, home cooked food, up to one XC retrieve at the end of each day. The price does not include travel, but for no extra charge we can collect you from Clermont Ferrand train station or airport, and we can also transport your wing from the UK. To travel with us by car costs an extra £175 return.
With this BHPA-registered Air Experience School, you will be in the hands of experienced professionals like our Chief Instructor, Dave, and the very experienced Michel. While we aim to provide a platform for community learning and safety, it is important to note that our qualifications are for tandem flying rather than teaching newbie solo pilots. You must be a qualified independent pilot to join this trip; this is not a beginner learn to paraglide course.
Travel to and from the Massif Central is not included. However, we offer several travel options to make your journey as smooth as possible:
We're happy to assist with booking travel if you wish.
We'll be stationed near the flying site of Puy de Dome, with its mountain railway ready to take you back to launch with ease. Other sites include Puy de L'Angle, Puy de la Tache, Puy Gros, and the magnificent Puy de Sancy. Some launches are grassy and very approachable, others are classic mountain launches - a bit steeper and rocky.
Remember to bring along the following:
If the weather is completely unflyable, we have several other activities planned, including visiting mountain top roman ruins, and wild hot springs in a forest.
To secure your spot, you need to put in a booking request using the booking form above.
The trip organiser will be notified of your booking request and you will be able to discuss the trip with them, ask any questions, and they will ask for some basic details including your paragliding qualification level, and your emergency contacts. Once they have confirmed your spot, you will then be taken to payment to confirm the trip.
Paragliding involves inherent risks, and your safety is our priority. While we'll discuss options for each day's flying and decide as a group which site to visit, you're ultimately responsible for your own decisions. No one is obliged to fly, and it's essential that each pilot feels confident about the forecast and the flying site before taking off.
Get ready for an unforgettable experience, flying through the breathtaking Corsican landscapes, soaring over its high mountains, and exploring its vast, wild spaces. Book your spot today and prepare to embark on an adventure that will elevate your spirit and ignite your sense of adventure!
The mountains of the Massif Central are wilder and less high than the Alps - making them an ideal playground for XC adventures for all abilities. Valley winds are manageable, and launches are generally grassy and friendly - although some of them can be a bit more intimidating with steep slopes and rocks. One of the most popular sites, Puy de Dome, has a mountain railway with regular trains. This means if you bomb out, you can be back on launch within 30 minutes, giving you plenty of chances to get in an epic flight.
We’ll be staying closest to the site of Puy de Dome – grassy launches and all wind directions catered for. According to the wishes of the group, we'll explore wilder sites towards Le Mont Dore, such as Puy Gros, Puy de L'Angle, and Puy de Sancy.
You will need to book your own transport from the UK to France. We can offer you a lift in the car there and back for an additional fee of £175. Otherwise, we can collect you from Clermont Ferrand train station or airport. Local travel to flying sites is included.
This trip is organised by a BHPA registered Air Experience School. The Chief Instructor is Dave, assisted by the very experienced Michel. Please note our instructor qualifications are for tandem flying rather than teaching newbie solo pilots.
We will not be offering guiding or instuction on this trip. Rather, we will be flying as a group of friends – sharing information and making decisions together. We speak French, and so we’ll liaise with local schools and pilots, and share what they tell us. Making decisions together leads to better safety and learning.
We request that XC pilots attempt to make their own way back (or nearer) by hitching or public transport (but not expensive taxis). We find that hitching works very well in the mountains especially with a paraglider-shaped rucksack. At the end of the flying day we will collect anyone who is still not back. Extra points if you can fly straight back to the holiday house!
Yes. This trip is for CP or above qualified pilots including lower air timers looking to grow their confidence in a mountain environment. The opportunities will range from gentle top-to-bottoms to challenging XC flights. You must be confident in your launching technique and ground handling – we can give you coaching on this before the trip – please make use of this if you are in any doubt. You should be prepared to walk up to half an hour with your glider. These skills can easily be perfected on our local sites. Please talk to us before booking if you’re not sure if you’re ready for this trip.
Please check that the following sounds like you:
We’ll be staying at a holiday home close to Puy de Dome, one of the main flying sites. You may need to share a room.
We'll check the forecast on the Thursday before departure - we may change the destination at that point if the weather in the Massif Central is bad. Otherwise, we will arrange alternative activities on the odd non-flyable day, such as visiting Roman mountain top ruins, or bathing in wild hot springs.

I think to be physically fit to help carry the gear once you land back to the place you started, likely my husband came and he was able to pick us up from a field each time in the car!! Butsar hill you don’t have to pay for parking. Btw
Dave was really knowledgeable and we felt like he prioritised safety really well which made the whole experience incredibly pleasant and worry free! The weather was also perfect to allow a really decent flight time which made it all even more exciting and enjoyable. Will definitely book with Dave again…
Brilliant experience :). Dave was friendly, professional and highly experienced. He explained everything thoroughly. Sorting the paperwork and going through the safety briefing was very quick and we were in the air within about 15 minutes of arrival. Had about 30 minutes in the air and I was allowed to…
Thrilling, exhilarating, gorgeous views, friendly and knowledgeable instructor, so glad I did it
