Experience the magic of bioluminescence on a specialist night snorkel focused on glowing ostracods and fluorescent marine life. Your expert guide explains what to expect on your activity date before you enter the calm, shallow shore water beneath the stars.
After pickup and a specialist briefing on the bioluminescent species expected on your date, you enter shallow shore water with your underwater light. Ostracods and other glowing critters reveal themselves in the dark Caribbean water as your guide manages light carefully to protect the display.
Your guide shares insider knowledge about each species and the science behind the glow, making this both exciting and educational. Whether you snorkel regularly or have only tried it a few times on Bonaire, the glowing reef feels entirely new. The session typically runs around 1 to 1.5 hours in the water.
The session runs at a shore site around Kralendijk within Bonaire National Marine Park. Site selection depends on lunar phase and current bioluminescent activity for the best possible light show on your chosen date.
Pickup and drop-off anywhere in Kralendijk is included for a seamless evening. Calm, shallow entry keeps the experience accessible without needing a boat.
Basic water confidence and shallow-water snorkelling ability are required. The session is not recommended for those with significant medical or physical limitations.
Bring swimwear, a towel and reef-safe sunscreen. A long-sleeve rash guard is recommended, as evenings can feel cooler on the water.
Specialist guides with deep knowledge of Bonaire's bioluminescent species make this more than a standard night snorkel. Small groups and shore entry keep the experience intimate and accessible for seasoned snorkellers and curious first-timers alike.
There is always something glowing to see, with your guide explaining what to expect for your specific activity date during the pre-snorkel briefing. Bioluminescent activity varies with lunar phase, and your guide selects timing accordingly.
Participants must be at least 10 years old. Groups run with a minimum of 2 and maximum of 8 for an intimate after-dark experience.
Seasoned snorkellers and those who have snorkeled on Bonaire before both find this memorable and unique.
