Take your first steps into kitesurfing on wide Tarifa beaches with IKO and FAV-certified coaching, current-season Duotone kit and live radio guidance from the sand and shallows. You will build intuitive kite control before adding the board, at a pace that suits your fitness and confidence rather than a fixed classroom script. Most riders start here whether they are trying kitesurfing on holiday or planning a longer stay in the Strait of Gibraltar wind.
Sessions start with a clear safety briefing and kite rigging on the beach, where you learn how to read the wind window and handle the bar without power in the lines. Your instructor keeps ratios small so you get frequent feedback while learning steering, walking the kite and using the quick releases confidently. We repeat drills until movements feel natural, because solid kite control on land saves time and stress once you enter the water.
As control improves, you move into the shallows for traction exercises and early board work when you are ready, always with the instructor close and on radio. Coaching stays patient and stepwise, and we pause on the sand whenever you need to reset so the whole block stays productive rather than tiring. By the end of the module you will know what to practise next and how many hours most riders book before riding independently.
Tarifa sits at the meeting point of the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, which gives long sandy beaches and reliable wind for learning kite control with room to move. We usually teach from Los Lances, where you have space to rig, launch and walk into shallow water without crowding the busiest swim zones.
Because we run a mobile school, we can relocate by van when Valdevaqueros, Palmones or another local beach offers safer depth or a cleaner wind band for your level. We will confirm the exact pin on WhatsApp before you travel so you are not guessing on the morning of your session.
You should be able to swim comfortably in open water and follow brief instructions during safety briefings. No prior kite experience is required, and we will teach you rigging, launch procedure and active safety systems from the ground up.
Younger riders are welcome from seven when they are roughly thirty kilograms and enjoy structured, playful coaching in the shallows. If you have any medical condition that could affect time in the water, tell us when you book so we can plan rests and ratios appropriately.
Coaching uses current-season Duotone kites and bars chosen for predictable handling, with radio helmets so you hear guidance while you fly and ride. Instructors hold IKO and FAV qualifications and adapt each module to real Atlantic conditions rather than flat-lagoon shortcuts that do not translate to Tarifa.
Equipment, insurance and Levante safety boat cover are included in standard lesson modules, and you only pay for the riding time conditions allow. We follow the wind honestly, and we would rather adjust the spot or shorten a water block than push you into conditions that do not help your progression.
We usually meet at Playa de los Lances, 1, 11380 Tarifa. Our mobile team may confirm Valdevaqueros or another Tarifa beach on WhatsApp if the wind suits a different spot that day.
Allow time to park near the beach and walk to the meeting point with soft shoes. We will message you if the start location changes before your session.
This module is for complete beginners who can swim and want to learn kite control safely on the beach and in the shallows. Your instructor will confirm you are on the right level at the start of the session and adjust the pace if you pick up skills quickly or need more time with the kite on land.
If you already control a kite confidently, message us through Adventuro chat and we will suggest the waterstart module instead so you do not repeat basics. It helps to share any previous lesson hours or other wind sports experience when you book so we can plan your first block sensibly.
Module length depends on your level and the format you book. Beginner discovery sessions are often two to three hours, while progression modules from waterstart upward commonly run three to five hours as you add board time and longer water blocks. Your instructor will suggest how many hours to book next once they have seen you fly and ride in real Tarifa wind.
We book in blocks that match the formats on our price list, and we pace rest stops on the sand so you stay fresh for the whole session. Strong Levante days sometimes mean slightly shorter water sets with more briefing time, and we will always explain the plan before you head back into the water.
Lesson prices include kite, bar, board, harness, helmet with live radio, wetsuit when needed, liability and accident insurance, and safety boat cover on strong Levante days when we operate offshore. We match kit to your size and level and replace equipment during the session if something is not working correctly.
You should bring swimwear, a towel, reef-safe sunscreen, drinking water and a warm layer for after the session. Transport to the meeting point is not included, and we will confirm the beach pin on WhatsApp if we move for the wind.
We only charge for teaching time when conditions allow useful practice on the water. If the wind drops or is unsuitable, payment is handled at the end of the session according to the time you actually rode or trained with your instructor.
We may reschedule within your stay, move to theory on the sand, or run safety and kite-handling drills until the wind returns. Our goal is that you still leave the beach with clearer skills and a plan for the next windy day, even when the Atlantic does not cooperate for riding.
We usually meet at Playa de los Lances, 1, in Tarifa, where parking and access to the teaching zone are straightforward on most days. Our mobile school can relocate to Valdevaqueros, Palmones or another local beach when that gives safer or more consistent wind for your level.
We will contact you on WhatsApp with the confirmed beach, start time and anything unusual to bring before you travel. Allow a little extra time on your first day to find the pin and walk across the sand in soft shoes.
Private lessons give you one instructor and a full set of kit for the fastest, most tailored progression. Semi-private 2.1 lets two riders share one kite with alternating practice, while 2.2 gives each rider their own kite when both are at a similar level.
Group lessons bring three or four riders together with one instructor and up to two kites. They work well for families or friends who book the same date and want a sociable session with clear coaching time for each person, and the per-hour rate reflects the minimum group size on the booking.
Pack swimwear, a towel, reef-safe sunscreen, drinking water and a warm layer for after the session. Soft shoes make the walk from parking across hot sand more comfortable, and a small dry bag keeps valuables out of the wind.
If you wear glasses or contact lenses, bring a strap or spare lenses. We provide all technical kite equipment and will advise on wetsuit thickness for the season when your booking is confirmed.
Children can join from seven years old when they weigh around thirty kilograms and enjoy learning in the water with an instructor nearby. We use shorter lines, smaller kites and playful drills so sessions stay engaging without rushing skills that need time to stick.
For younger or lighter riders, private or semi-private formats usually work best so coaching stays focused. Message us if you are booking for a child and we will confirm the best format and module for their first sessions.
We plan start times once the daily wind forecast is clear, and many approved bookings begin around 09:00 local time unless we agree another slot with you. Strong Levante days sometimes favour a slightly later start when the wind settles, and we will tell you if that applies to your date.
Your confirmation message will include the meeting beach, start time and what to bring. Keep your phone available on the day in case we adjust for conditions or move to a better teaching beach.
Semi-private prices need two riders on the same booking, and group prices need three or four riders booked together for the same session. The per-hour rates on each format assume those minimum numbers are met when you check out.
If you are travelling solo, choose a private lesson or contact us through Adventuro chat to see whether another rider can join your preferred date before you pay. We can sometimes match compatible riders when schedules align, but we will never add someone to your session without agreeing it with you first.

About the centre
Tarifa
You'll learn kitesurfing on Tarifa's famous beaches with a mobile IKO and FAV-certified team that follows the wind to the best spot each day. From your first kite control through waterstart, upwind riding, jumps, strapless, and Tiki, sessions are structured for steady progress with radio coaching and up-to-date Duotone kit. Private, semi-private and small group formats let you book the pace that suits your trip, whether you are here for a weekend or a full windy season.
We're on the sand at Playa de los Lances most days, and we'll reach you on WhatsApp if we need to move for the conditions. Equipment, helmets, and safety cover on Levante days are part of how we run every lesson, so you can focus on riding. Coaching cards are also available when you bring your own quiver and want radio feedback without renting school kit every session.
