Learn coarse fishing from scratch on the Norfolk Broads with patient one-to-one coaching at a bank or mooring that suits your holiday plans. Your tutor brings tackle and bait, explains each step in plain language, and helps you cast, detect bites, and land fish safely.
After you book, we confirm where you are staying or moored and agree a meeting point with easy bank access or a safe spot to fish from your hire boat. Your tutor arrives with rods, reels, bait, and a landing net, checks the swim with you, and builds a simple rig matched to the conditions on the day.
Most of the session is hands on: casting practice, striking when the float or tip moves, and playing fish under guidance. We pause often so you can ask questions, adjust tackle, and try again. By the end you should feel confident setting up for a short session on your own and know how to handle fish carefully before returning them.
Sessions run across the Norfolk Broads and nearby East Anglian rivers, including popular holiday areas around Wroxham, Horning, Ludham, and many staithes and broads reached by hire boat. Because you may be on a cottage deck, a riverside pitch, or a moored cruiser, the exact peg is agreed once we know your location rather than a single fixed car park.
The Broads are a network of slow rivers and shallow lakes with rich coarse fishing, reed fringes, and quiet bankside paths. Your tutor chooses a swim with safe footing, sensible casting room, and a fair chance of bites for beginners, using local knowledge of seasonal patterns rather than a one size fits all venue name.
No prior fishing experience is needed. Come ready to listen, follow basic safety guidance around hooks and water, and wear clothing suited to the weather. If you are booking for a child, a parent or guardian must stay for the whole session and help judge whether they can handle small hooks safely.
You do not need your own licence for a coached introduction in most holiday scenarios, but your tutor can advise on Environment Agency rules if you plan to fish independently later. Let us know about mobility or access needs when you book so we can pick a suitable bank or mooring.
Coaching is delivered by a qualified teacher with decades on these waters, not a generic activity slot. Lessons are genuinely one-to-one or for two coached anglers, so pace and language match your level rather than a large group format.
Everything needed for the session can be supplied, which suits visitors on hire boats or in cottages without garage space for tackle. Flexible meeting arrangements mean you spend more time fishing and less time travelling to a distant fixed pool.
Yes. Coaching is designed for holiday visitors who have never handled a rod before. Your tutor explains each piece of kit, helps you cast safely, and stays beside you while you fish. A one hour slot covers the essentials, while two hours gives more time to repeat casts and try for a few different species.
There is no test or exam, just practical steps at your pace. Children can join when a parent or guardian stays for the session and helps with hook safety.
After you book we ask where you are staying or moored. That might be a hire boat on Wroxham Broad, a riverside cottage, or a holiday park pitch with bank access. We agree a safe peg with room to cast and sensible footing, then meet you there at the confirmed time.
If you are on a boat, share mooring details, boat name, and registration if you have them, plus a What3Words pin when bank access is tricky. We aim to minimise walking with heavy kit across busy sites.
Rods, reels, line, hooks, floats or leger rigs, bait, and a landing net are included for the coached session. You may bring your own kit if you prefer, and your tutor can check it is set up correctly for Broads fishing.
Wear weather appropriate clothing and footwear with grip near water. Sun cream, a hat, and a light waterproof are sensible in summer showers. You do not need waders unless you already own them and wish to use them.
All ages are welcome when supervision is in place. Anyone under 18 should have a parent or guardian present for the full lesson. Your tutor will judge whether a young child can follow instructions around hooks and water edges.
There is no upper age limit. Sessions are calm and tailored, which suits many families who want a gentle introduction rather than a crowded lesson bay.
Each booking covers one or two coached participants fishing together with one tutor. That keeps instruction personal and safe. Additional friends or family may watch as spectators if space allows, usually up to around six people in total on the bank.
If two children each need full coaching, separate bookings or a split session may be required. Contact us before booking if you are unsure, and we can suggest back to back slots when the diary allows.
Yes. Many guests learn while moored on a hire cruiser or day boat. Your tutor selects a swim with safe casting room, checks wind direction, and keeps lines clear of rigging. Short rods and careful positioning help on narrow dykes.
Tell us at booking if you will fish from the boat rather than the bank so we can plan tackle and meeting logistics. Boarding access and park rules vary between yards and holiday sites.
Light wind and rain often still allow a useful lesson. Very strong wind, lightning, or conditions that make casting unsafe may mean a reschedule. We will contact you as early as possible if we need to move the session.
Dress for the forecast and bring a waterproof layer. Reed fringes can be sheltered even when open water looks breezy, and your tutor picks a swim with that in mind.
For a coached introduction with tackle supplied, licence rules depend on your situation and whether you keep fish. Your tutor explains catch and release practice on the day and can signpost Environment Agency licence guidance if you plan to fish independently later on the Broads.
If you already hold a licence, bring proof if you wish, but it is not usually required for a short tuition session where fish are returned. Ask when booking if you are unsure about your holiday setup.
Reschedule free with at least twenty four hours notice. Cancel more than forty eight hours before the start and a ten pound administration fee applies with the balance refunded. Cancel inside forty eight hours and the booking is non refundable unless we agree an exceptional case.
If we cancel because of illness or unsafe conditions, you receive a full refund or a free reschedule. Full payment confirms your slot, matching the partner booking policy shared at checkout.
Book at least twenty four hours ahead when you can, especially in peak summer weeks on the Broads. After payment we confirm the meeting details and any access notes for your cottage, park, or mooring.
Share emergency contact details, your staying location, whether you are land based or on a boat, parking notes, and any prior experience when prompted. That helps your tutor arrive prepared with the right bait and simple rigs for the swim.
