Leave the capital behind on a three day loop through Mongolia's Mini Gobi dunes, the Chinggis Khan Statue Complex and Terelj National Park. You will ride camels across golden sand, sleep in traditional ger camps and explore Turtle Rock and Aryabal Meditation Temple with local guides who know the roads, camps and herder communities along the route.
From Ulaanbaatar the loop heads west to Elsen Tasarkhai and the Mongol Els dunes, where golden Mini Gobi sand meets steppe grassland. You will ride Bactrian camels across the dunes, sleep in a countryside ger camp and continue towards the towering Chinggis Khan Equestrian Statue Complex with time on its viewing platform and in the museum.
The route then swings into Gorkhi Terelj National Park for horse riding among granite valleys and forested hills. Highlights include Turtle Rock, the trail up to Aryabal Meditation Temple and wide steppe views on the return drive to the capital. Two ger camp nights keep you close to the landscapes that define each stage of the journey.
Elsen Tasarkhai sits within the 80 km Mongol Els dune system, a striking transition zone where Gobi sand meets Khangai grassland and granite outcrops. Terelj National Park adds forested valleys, turtle-shaped rock formations and wide steppe views within a few hours of the capital.
Overnights are spent in tourist-grade ger camps in the countryside, giving you a comfortable base between driving days while still feeling immersed in Mongolia's open landscapes. Evenings are quiet and starry, with camp facilities that make multi-day travel straightforward without sacrificing the sense of being far from the city.
This trip suits curious travellers comfortable with full days on the road, shared ger accommodation and light outdoor activity. Camel and horse riding are included but voluntary, and no prior riding experience is required, so you can join whether you want a gentle introduction or a more active day out on the steppe.
Children from four years old may join when accompanied by a responsible adult. Please tell us about dietary needs or mobility considerations when you book so meals, camp arrangements and the pace on activity days can be planned around your group.
The route is planned by a licensed local team with more than twenty years of experience guiding international guests through western and central Mongolia. English, Japanese and Chinese support helps the logistics feel clear from pickup through to drop-off, whether you are travelling as a couple, a family or a small group of friends.
You will travel with guides who know the roads, camps and herder communities along the way, so the days feel well paced rather than rushed between photo stops. There is still plenty of time to ask questions, enjoy the scenery and take in the contrast between dune, statue and mountain landscapes on each day of the loop.
Morning pickup is available between 8:00 and 9:30 from the front gate of the State Department Store or the front bus stop at Sukhbaatar Square in central Ulaanbaatar. Please be ready at your chosen meeting point on time so the group can depart together.
Private airport pickup from Chingis Khan Airport is not included but can be arranged for an additional fee if you request it in advance. Your guide will confirm the exact pickup time after booking.
