Summiting a Munro in winter conditions is an incredible experience, but it requires preparation, skill, and knowledge. Join me for two days of winter hiking, where we'll target a selection of Munros, making the most of the weather and taking in the beauty of the Scottish Highlands. Whether you're looking to tick off more peaks or simply enjoy time in the mountains, this is the adventure for you.
This adventure will take you to some of the most rewarding summits, offering fantastic views of the surrounding landscape. The weather conditions play a big role in determining which Munros we tackle, but you can be sure that we'll aim to reach a variety of peaks over the two days. We'll focus on safe techniques for winter hiking, utilising the necessary equipment such as ice axes and helmets to tackle any tricky terrain. The day will be a mix of walking, developing essential winter skills, and soaking in the experience of the Scottish hills.
During the trip, you can expect plenty of good conversation, with a relaxed pace and focus on ensuring safety throughout. Whether you’re an experienced winter walker or just looking to expand your skills, there’s something for everyone. You’ll feel a sense of accomplishment after each summit and leave with improved confidence in your winter hiking abilities.
The adventure will take place within the Cairngorms National Park, home to some of Scotland's most iconic peaks. We will explore various Munros in this vast and diverse landscape, carefully choosing summits based on weather conditions and group ability.
From snow-covered ridges to steep terrain, the Highlands offers a perfect setting for winter hiking, where every route is tailored to your skill level and the conditions on the day.
Prior winter experience is required for this adventure. If you have not used crampons or ice axes before, we recommend booking the "Welcome to Winter Hiking" course. This course introduces you to the skills necessary for winter hiking and helps you feel more confident on the hills before taking on a Munro.
It is important that participants are familiar with basic winter hiking techniques for their safety and enjoyment throughout the two days.
At the heart of this experience is a passion for the outdoors and a commitment to supporting mental health. Your guide, Matt, believes that spending time in nature can be an excellent way to refresh your mind and reset from the stresses of everyday life. Outdoor adventures, like hiking and climbing, can boost your mood, improve your self-esteem, and help you make meaningful connections with others. Having personally experienced the positive impact of nature on mental well-being, Matt want to offer others the chance to benefit from the same.
The aim is not just to guide you up mountains, but to help you build resilience and gain empowering skills for life. Each hike is an opportunity to challenge yourself, learn new techniques, and build confidence in the mountains. His hope is that after joining one of these winter Munro adventures, you will leave feeling recharged and ready to face the challenges of daily life with a new sense of perspective.
