Swap city streets for Terelj National Park on a two day loop of nomadic culture, horse riding and mountain scenery. You will meet a herder family, hike to Aryabal Meditation Temple, sleep in a ger camp under the stars and finish at the Genghis Khan Equestrian Statue before returning to Ulaanbaatar.
You leave Ulaanbaatar for Gorkhi Terelj National Park, where granite valleys, Turtle Rock and the trail to Aryabal Meditation Temple are among the best-known landmarks close to the capital. A visit to a nomadic herder family and a guided horse ride across open steppe bring the park's culture into focus before you settle into a ger camp for the night.
Day two adds mountain hiking with valley views, then the Genghis Khan Equestrian Statue Complex rising above the grassland east of the city. A stop at a traditional market for crafts and local goods on the return drive rounds off the loop, giving you a final taste of Mongolian countryside and city life in one short trip.
Gorkhi Terelj National Park lies within easy reach of Ulaanbaatar yet feels a world away, with granite formations, forested valleys and wide steppe views that change with the light through the day. Turtle Rock and the temple trail are among the park's best-known landmarks, and the scenery stays varied even on a short overnight trip.
The Genghis Khan Equestrian Statue stands on the steppe east of the capital and makes a memorable finale before you head back to the city. Rising above the grassland, it gives you a last wide-angle view of the landscapes you have been riding and walking through since leaving Ulaanbaatar.
This trip suits active travellers comfortable with light hiking, shared ger accommodation and a guided horse ride across the steppe. No riding experience is needed, and you can skip the ride if you prefer to spend more time with the nomadic family or exploring the camp surroundings at your own pace.
Children from four years old may join with a responsible adult. Mention dietary needs or mobility questions when you book so the team can plan meals, camp sleeping arrangements and a comfortable pace for everyone in your group.
You will travel with licensed local guides who combine outdoor adventure with genuine cultural encounters, including time with a nomadic family in their ger. English, Japanese and Chinese support keeps communication straightforward from pickup to drop-off, which helps when you are coordinating pickup times, riding confidence or dietary requests on the road.
The itinerary balances driving, walking and riding so the two days feel full without being exhausting. You still have breathing room for photos, temple viewpoints and a relaxed evening at camp rather than rushing from one checkpoint to the next.
Morning pickup is available between 8:00 and 9:30 from the front gate of the State Department Store or the front bus stop at Sukhbaatar Square in central Ulaanbaatar.
Please make your own way to the meeting point on time. Airport pickup is not included but can be arranged separately if you request it in advance.
