SUP Paddle Surf Award takes your flat-water SUP skills into breaking waves and paddle-surf environments where timing, board control and humility matter more than gym strength. You learn to read sets, paddle out through surf, catch waves with control, and fall without becoming a hazard to swimmers or other surfers.
Most paddlers arrive with SUP Sheltered Water Award skills or equivalent experience on sheltered water. Coaching runs on beaches with suitable surf under provider safety frameworks. Standing up is optional on some waves; falling in is inevitable. That is not a failure.
By the end you should have improved SUP paddle-surf skills and safety awareness for surf conditions within the award remit. This is personal performance recognition, not a lifeguard or surf-instructor qualification. Respect local surf etiquette and centre rules every session.
Flat-water balance does not guarantee surf success. Your coach builds paddle-out timing and fall recovery in controlled conditions before pushing into bigger sets. Swell windows dictate scheduling more than any classroom timetable.
Flexible coached delivery on surf beaches, often one to two days or modular sessions when swell allows.
SUP Paddle Surf Award uses continuous assessment during coached surf sessions. There is no written exam.
